Waves-hell scan

Hi all,

I've just updated the Waves Central, downloaded latest Waveshell. Now when I scan I have the Waveshell recognised in the scan but the plugins are missing when I load a project. I have checked and double checked the paths for waveshell-vst3 9.91_x64.dll.
I have paths of C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Waves\Waveshells V9, also C:\ProgramFiles\VSTPlugins.
Can someone tell me what obvious detail I've missed on this?
Cheers
Jerry

I only install the VST3 64bit versions so my path in Sonar is  C:\ProgramFiles\Commonfiles\VST3 and the VST3 waveshell is in this directory.  For VST2 plugins the wavesshell should be in C:\ProgramFiles\Cakewalk\vstplugins and this path in Sonar. This is how I have mine setup.

Two paths in Sonar
C:\ProgramFiles\Commonfiles\VST3
C:\ProgramFiles\Cakewalk\vstplugins

This is something I've wondered about for a while.  Every software developer seems to have a different idea of where their plugins should go.  This has got me confused more than once. I which there was a standard location for plugins to go and all developers installed then there. That would end a lot of headaches for me.

Are you using a dongle?
If you are and it is not plugged in when you run the VST scan your plugins will come up missing.

Not me...I keep them off of my C Drive, and that is where they typically want to install...
I have them on a separate drive, that way, C doesn't get full too fast (my C is only 120 GB),
and many don't have to be reinstalled if there is a problem with C.

I had a somewhat similar situation with a number of missing plugins after that update. I called Waves support. As usual, they were great. They found the issue quickly and I was back in business.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

Hi all,

After installing the latest update I encountered a similar issue. My fix was to delete the old Waveshell .ddl from the VST file. It was smooth sailing after that.

I've been wanting to put all my vsts in one place. I have room on my C drive, but maybe putting them on another drive would help? Does anyone else have their own system for keeping them straight? I would like them in one place so I could back them up easy... not to mention finding where the vst2s/vst3s are all hiding. I find I have duplicates when I run the scan. Just something else to keep me from actually working on music... If anyone listened to the Jack White interview on the Tape Op podcast #2, I totally get where he was coming from. An 8-track tape machine is all he needs to create great recordings. Sometimes I think I got more creative with my Tascam 4-track.
Progress?

Hi all.

I will elaborate a little further. The update installed the new Waveshell .dll into another VSTplugin folder on my C drive I didn't know I had so the process may have created it. The fix was to drag the Waveshell 9.91 x64.dll file into my preferred VSTplugin folder and delete the old Waveshell .dll file.

For me it's the opposite.  Some developers still think plugins should go Steinberg\VST Plugins.

Waves installers are a PITA. I've had where I accidentally removed all of them except for the most recent purchase, I personally do not like the multiple VST installers.  Sometimes you end up with a lot of demos.  VST installation is something I pay more attention to.

Thanks so far for the responses. I've contacted Waves support.
Thanks TheSteven - I'm not using a dongle, my licenses are all on the PC.
I have often thought of rationalising the vst paths, but you know how it is .. it wrecks the current projects so you need to find all the plugs again, etc.  My scan path at the moment must have a dozen or so folders in it. But as you say - it may be inherent to the recent Waveshell 9.91 itself.

Cheers

You can move your plugins any time you want. It won't break old projects - as long as they can still find the plugins.

For Waves, SONAR just as to know where the waves he'll dll is - and this points other all the actual plugins. You can copy the waveshell dll anywhere you want to (from c:\program files (x86)\vst plugins) and it still works fine.

I have all my plugins in one place - c:\vst plugins\64 bit - in various sub folders. Then sonar only has to scan here, the vst3 folder and there's another one for "c:\program files\cakewalk\shared plugins" (or something like that)

Actually, you can't.  But you can move  the waveshell dll anywhere you want.  Copying the file will only confuse Waves, even if you tell Sonar the new path.

I still have one in the original location, but SONAR doesn't scan there - then I have a copy in my preferred location - and it works fine :-)

My mistake then, apologies.  I could have sworn I tried it and got grief (Must have been a different VST).  It's especially surprising knowing how "quirky" Waves can be with some installs.

Ok, I'm fixed now. I went back through the process of deleting the cache and all the waveshells (again) and reinstalling and all the plugins are now picked up.

The problem comes when they change the version of waveshell. Then you have to be sure that SONAR only sees the one version, and you have to rescan all your VSts.
(listen to me - a few weeks ago, I didn't know how any of this worked, but I got burnt when upgrading some Waves stuff. Now I know how it works, and it's not *that* bad...)

HI all,

I got tired of VST dll's being all over the place. So I created 3 subdirectories in C:\Programs Files\Common Files and C:\Programs Files (x86)\Common Files. I use the common files location because this is where VST3's are installed.
VST2
VST3
VSTi
All 32-bit go to C:\Programs Files (x86)\Common Files and 64-bit go to C:\Programs Files\Common Files with subfolders. The only thing is you have to maintain it. Like all of you I wish ALL the companies would give us a choice where to install.

This works for all the programs I use including Video Editor's. Make sure in the program you change your scan locations.

I had similar problem with the latest update. I tried everything suggested by waves with no result. The vst scan is always came up with errors.

And 2 hours ago out of desperation I tried offline installation and all of a sudden everything went well. All my waves vst are scaned and detected.

So if all else failed, tried offline installation.

THANK YOU!! Only a few of my WAVES vst3s vanished and turned into vst2s, not all for some unknown reason. I did your offline install trick: uninstalled plugins with WAVES Central, then did offline install, THEN did edit > preferences > VST settings > Manual scan with both Rescan failed plug-ins and Rescan existing plug-ins checked. That worked, but JUST offline install did not work, it worked when I did the manual scan with both boxes checked. I'm in the middle of a project when this happened. I think installing the new WAVES Central is what did it, and of course WAVES tech help was no help (We don't support X3!) and still 24 hours into a tech email with Cakewalk and no help, so thank goodness for this forum :)
