virtual midi cables has significant delay so I'm trying to not use it

I would suggest someone on a budget might want try it. It could be an acceptable solution.

Yes, that is the desired effect and I guess from there, within each track, it's just a matter of enabling Write Automation to make it permanent (and then if further edits need to be done you just overwrite from the virt cable track). I can only assume that the Virtual MIDI Cable is inserted as a synth to the controlling track.

The only time I would write it to the actual tracks is when was done with grouping and need to make changes on individual tracks. Otherwise, leave it alone, edit the MIDI track and let it control until you are ready to print.

It is... and really the whole point of my current project (and all these recent open ended threads) is to round out/advance my knowledge now that I am a little more familiar with the program. Apparently I was not as familiar with the automation features as I once thought... but that also explains why I found it so intimidating in the early days. I just could not understand how to do the things I am attempting now. Turns out it is not possible (yet) without other stuff in play. I never would have comprehended or execute this type of thing back then. Now I can... sort of.

I would not be at this point without the forum and members like yourself. Perpetually greatful for that.

Thanks.
