We need to get a grip!!!
I don't venture down this way much in fact this is my first visit in over 10 years of owning Sonar software. I'd just like to say, christ we can all get ****y. I know I am an arrogant son of a **** but that is what rock and roll is all about and humour esp humour. For example we were talking about bit depth, I happened to mention that 32fp was all about making the system run smoother, I may or may not be right and I said this, then a few of the regulars start getting stuck in, I let this one go through to the keeper (Cricket). Then someone asked a question about faders, once again I gave an opinion, this time perhaps a little forcefully but all in good fun and humour esp the stuff about appendages. I was brought up on British humour and the double entendre. What I am trying to point out is perhaps we should not take what we post too seriously, take everything with a pinch of salt I certainly don't know everything (yes, yes I know I am the one flashing my degree's but this has nothing to do with I am better or greater, it's just a set of key's) we do have quite a few experts on various subjects around this forum but even they don't know everything. This great audio journey is at once beginning, in the middle and ending. Huh, digital that's what I am talking about. All I can say, lets try and understand everyone's humour, because that's a lot of where people misunderstand me, lets try and understand everyone's journey (and where they are at) and once again try and help where possible and lets try and understand, understanding. Ok, Ok you can accuse me of being a hypocrite. Peace Ben

You're only a hypocrite down here if you try to be serious. Shirley you can understand that. I wonder if there's ANYONE who's used Cakewalk longer than me on this board (started with version 1.0 when it first came out in the 80's), but I never venture upstairs - people are too uptight up there and life's too short to deal with that.

Great post. I'm the same way when it comes to humor. Being in the front line many years in a dimly lit, alcohol soaked, low brow environment, it has had quite an influence on my charm. Up against the wall you redneck mothers! T is for Texas! ;) One thing we have to remember is not everybody has a sense of humor ... and the biggest thing ... not everybody is a stable human being, especially musicians. I mean, come on, we're all a little nutty. I could go down the list of flat liners who never lose control, the mid liners, and the whacko's, but honestly, they/we all know who they/we are so there's no sense in beating a ****ed horse. When I imagine the person on the other end of the internet who's typing and going off like a nutjob, I actually start to feel sorry for him, sorry, them, and that calms down my urge to tell him, sorry, them, what a complete and utter ****ing moron he is, sorry, they are. Let's not make this personal. ;) Then you have the language barrier. Not every body speaky de' ingleece zo well and I think some misunderstandings happen because of that. But anyway, I get you Ben, and I have a pretty clear understanding in my mind of some of the people I personally view as wacko's, and I just try to keep it civil the best I can, but I do fail a lot of times, although I am getting better. It's hard to walk away sometimes. Can't tell you how many times I've written a 3 paragraph response and deleted it. Heh. On a personal note, I'm long winded, like to type, and can be annoying. I'm not saying I'm innocent in all of this. ;)

Yes, I saw that in the bit thread. It happened to me too and all I said was do some testing on your own system and come to your own conclusions. I mean, how much more generic and non confrontational could I have been than that? LOL! :)

ben, great post, and welcome to the basement. I do agree that people tend to get their undershreddies in a wad over stupid irrelevant stuff. sometimes I do too - as Bub points out - we're musicians so we're all a little nutty anyway. but I would like to ask you, from my perspective, to tone down some of the words you're using, even in the CH. the forum is a very diverse place, there are lots of different kinds of people here and we all TRY to get along (and do a farily good job of it), but we also try to keep the language a little less offensive.

I also like how you seem to have a natural inclination keep it friendly despite the fact that many of the "friendly" people respond by acting viciously and with poorly hidden malice. Keep it up Ben! I doubt you guys will believe this but when I was a kid living south of Miami my dad used to drive down to the hardware store and buy sticks of dynamite to help with landscaping. I was watching a Thirty Rock rerun last nite on Netflix and Alec Baldwin is speaking of his mom and her place down in Florida... he says something like "Florida... it is the Australia of the United States" and my wife and I started laughing hard because we know exactly what the joke meant. Down here all the Marinas and Yard tool places are selling special Ethanol free gas to keep all the rubber and stuff from breaking down... there is also discussion about the heat exchange vs real power output. The air cooled a engines seem to run hotter... or at least that's a rural myth I've been hearing recently. best regards, mike

mike_mccue Hi Ben, I think you are a hoot. Your take on things reminds me of all the optimistic fervor of my days at art school. I also like how you seem to have a natural inclination keep it friendly despite the fact that many of the "friendly" people respond by acting viciously and with poorly hidden malice. Keep it up Ben! You are keeping the place interesting. best regards, mike Thanks everyone, it nice to hear everyone being so terribly nice, we should rename this the really nice thread. I'm a bit Monty Python aren't I Fred. And a big thanks to you Mike, I need words like that, you know we're/I'm out here on the front line, our great shinny edifice that music once was is gone!!! I am learning the reasons why and all that jazz and I am trying to put it all back together. Won't happen in my lifetime but my job is to keep the fire burning (hopefully history will remember me fondly, like Mozart or Van Gogh). The trick is to get people to understand the majik in music. I am reading a book called 33 and 1 third: about Led Zepplin and the album Zep 4. Digital to me is beautiful and has majik but the book points out that buying and owning a record was like a majik ritual, which we have lost. We need to understand how to get people to recognize the ether in 0&1's, haven't figured this one out either. I do know that having a larger than life personality and the energy and the responsibility is one of the keys, on the Internet and in place like this to know how to project yourself is paramount. Our audience is bigger than at anytime in our history but who are taking advantage of it, Lady Gaga and the monosexual rat Beiber what is scary is nothing has really changed, its still a bunch of suits wearing dildo's ****ing us and we go yes please can I have some more of that. Ok were am I going with this?? Perhaps the youth have a better understanding of how to become part of the mythology of the future, that is technology is our friend and with the disintegration of more traditional media types, those of us that know how to tap into the new media will eventually flourish or this is my hope. This I believe will right the sinking ship. OK that was a bit of a ramble and I hope those of you who read this got it. I am terribly nice, though, really, even if I was Dr.Hash and I went through 5 regenerations (Dr Who reference) Peace Ben

I learned long ago, well maybe 10yrs ago, that there two problems on forums that cause problems. 1: People who don't "get it" when someone attempts humor.. when no facial expressions or tone of voice is involved. I've learned to always use "smileys" if I am trying to be funny. 2: Some people's only intention is to stir the pot. I have been on forums where certain people used multiple usernames to start flame wars with them self. The point was to get other people drawn in.. and then sit back and laugh. (late 90s HCGF) I don't see anything like that here. I think pretty much everyone on the CW forums, especially the regulars, try to help and mean well. Some people are blunt, some are indirect. Some try to not offend and some are rude but I don't see anyone here being malicious. Ben... I can't imagine anyone being upset with you. If you say something someone disagrees with you always come across as trying to help. You have strong opions but who doesn't? I remember recently you telling someone to stop posting their music so that it could be downloaded for free. It is good advice and I tucked the it away for my own use. Remember, cream wil always rise to the top. Most really good and sucessful musicians or bands are overnight sensations after 10,000 hours of working on it. Why were the Beatles so good? Lennon and McCartney IIRC began playing together in 1957. They were in the right place to get booked to play strip clubs in Hamburg. They had been used to playing maybe an hour set at the most and not everyday. Those bookings in Hamburg required them to play 8 hour shows 7 days a week for months. That is why they were ready when the real opportunity presented. There will always be great musicians and bands but as always, the really good ones will be the ones that through some circumstance or another are prepared by having 10,000 hours under their belt when the opportunity comes. I do miss the LP though. The big cover, the inserts. I got used to CDs but I have a problem buying Mp3s with nothing to look at. I need something to hold in my hand. The ship isn't sinking, it is just changing course and people will always steal music if they can do it and if the fidelity is reasonable. Making a recording, using a 1/4" reel to reel tape machine by micing an AM radio never had any chance of competing with an LP whether Stereo or Mono... yes I remember mono LPs and the early Stereophonic records with the note on the cover that the LP would play on your mono record player...
