Weak Marketing

Hello,

If I make 1000 things that need fixes nobody want's to work with me!

What is your offer - "pay us for next 1000 fixes"?!

OK guys I like Sonar and I use it every day but it sounds disgusting "list of fixes grows" !

Try to make good DAW and than make proper offer to us, your customers.

Why Sonar Platinum can't split stereo audio file(stereo channel) to left and right mono audio files(two mono left and right channels) with one simple command ?

I just unsubscribe from your marketing news.

Regards,

Seems to me that someone barked at marketing and said "Say something that will move the x3 sloths from their perch and into SPLAT, by Monday or else we'll put you in support"

So they looked inside the barrel and there wasn't anything in there more to say so they did sneak into engineering a place generally off limits to the sales group for a myriad of reasons, to find maybe one more reason SPLAT is a place an x3 user would want to be today. Engineers always tell the truth, sometimes to a fault, said: "Well since X3 we've squashed 1000 bugs....."

"Enrika!" said Marketing Mark! "I'll spin that in the positive!" and off he ran for his weekend.

Now I wasn't there, and I don't know #$%^ but when I read what was in my in-box that was the scene I saw. Probably because I've seen that happen in the good old days when the US made and stuffed their own circuit boards.

That said: All you generation Xers, C'mon over! SPLAT's cool and gettin cooler!

Re: Weak Marketing 2016/07/18 22:20:23 (permalink)
Having been in programming since CP/M was an operating system, I'll say this about that.

In a program as large as SONAR, AND having to contend with every possible combination of audio interface, video card, VST interfaces for plugins (some solid - some not so much), constant updates from Microsoft (that often introduce issues themselves), and so on... I personally commend them on how well things work!

FWIW, a 1000 fixes would not be unheard in the life of a product either.  Some are basic typos, some are little larger than that.  The very nature of software is that the 'potential' exists that fixing one thing could break another.

My experience (as I'm sure many other members here have as well - since they too work in IT), is that I'm still supporting some multi-million lines of code in applications for business systems with 1000's of concurrent connections that have been in production for 10+ years.  There isn't nary a week go by that some thing or some one has tried/run across doesn't come up.   Everything is relative.

IMHO, It's easy to write something that will work and use it yourself - and you be the only user!  It's far harder to allow the user to do whatever they want and in just about any flow that they want and still keep things working.  Just sayin'

Great job bakers!

A rack of noisemakers is not a definitive substitute for creativity. (though it does seem to help)

Have you already made 1000 things which do not have to be fixed? And how complex was these "things"?

There are 1000 things in Sonar which are not perfect and need some attention, but there are 999999+ things which are fine there.

Sonar 8LE -> Platinum infinity, REAPER, Windows 10 pro
GA-EP35-DS3L, E7500, 4GB, GTX 1050 Ti, 2x500GB
RME Babyface Pro (M-Audio Audiophile Firewire/410, VS-20), Kawai CN43, TD-11, Roland A500S, Akai MPK Mini, Keystation Pro, etc.

I think mixing and mastering the average album probably addresses about 1,000 things that need to be fixed

Hello people :)

Thanks for comments.

@bitman Yes I think that's true! :)

I began 1993. with Atari ST and Cubase 2.0 , 1996. I start to use PC Pentium and Cubase 3.0 < 4.5 until 2008.I use Pro Tools version 8 and later to end of 2014.  I started to use Sonar(Professional) now Platinum in January 2015.
I'm sure I was made some mistakes in recordings, mixing sometimes mastering and producing music from 1993. - 2016.

I'm not complaining about Sonar DAW.
I have some suggestions or something I think will help.
Sonar Platinum is great! Best DAW I ever use.

Mr. Anderton I'm glad you commented on my post.
Yes I use bouncing split mono and it's almost "one simple command" :) But there is 10 check-uncheck options 3-4 dropdown menus... OK I use it successfully!
I agree with you about work on any album. :)

I was revolted by emails from Cakewalk Marketing and my email to them was rejected.
I just open forum and post a thread - anywhere :)
Now I'm unsubscribed from Cakewalk Marketing newsletter.

Three times per week Cakewalk Marketing news send me "offers" and last was too much for my taste:

This shows both transparency and commitment to truly improving the software, not just adding new plugins.  Those are two things you won't find in every company.  (I use the software almost every single day, and I would have no idea it had that many "bugs" I just don't run into them)

It also points out that you can get on board with this new model and not have to play for the next "versions" - few other DAWs are offering this either.

Is if fair to assume you did not update to Lifetime Updates yet?  If not, you might want to revisit the marketing.

Though if I got 3 marketing emails from Cake each week, I'd consider that aggressive also and would unsubscribe.

To be fair, I can see why they're proud of that milestone. SONAR had, shall we say, "fallen into disrepair" prior to Cakewalk's acquisition by Gibson. There are many people now working at Cakewalk who have been cleaning up messes not of their own making, and are taking fixes seriously. You can always make a case that the software should not have reached a state where it had all those problems, but it did...so I'm glad the current team has taken responsibility for "tightening down the screws."

WhitestudiobgWhy Sonar Platinum can't split stereo audio file(stereo channel) to left and right mono audio files(two mono left and right channels) with one simple command ?

Bounce to Tracks > specify "Split Mono."

Where is this Bounce to Tracks?
I can only find Split, Bounce to Clips and Convert to Mono.

The following solution was given me by a Brother of this Parish a while back, so clearly others have also stood before this same issue and scratched their heads.

Here's the steps I was given:
1. Select the track to be split
2. Go to Export Audio, choose Tracks and select the track you want to export (should already be selected).
3. Go to Channel Format and select Split Mono.
4. Export your two split files
5. Create two new tracks and open the two new split files in these tracks.

It works, but it's non-obvious.
