Weird Behavior with Melda MDynamic EQ-Any Ideas?
Hi all, I recently picked up the Melda MDynamic EQ during the 50% off sale the other day. I have had my eye on this EQ for a while based on the positive reviews from Bitflipper and others. I installed it as a VST 3 and put it on the Master Bus of a project on working on. As soon as I loaded the plugin for the first time I noticed a very significant spike in my CPU meters on Core 1. As the session went on and I changed some of the parameters in the EQ the spike continued to rise until dropout. Even with very high buffers (1024, which I never have had to use before) it still spiked and dropped out. Bummer. I have uninstalled and clean reinstalled, tried both VST 2 and VST 3 (my DAW supports VST3) and nothing has helped. Do you have any suggestions as to why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? Is this normal behavior? I hope not because only one instance of this EQ brought my very powerful system to it's knees. Thanks guys for the help.

I've not seen this behavior. The plugin is fairly CPU-intensive, especially with the visual aids enabled. However, I've had as many as six instances in a project on my ancient, grossly-underpowered computer with no problem. I'd try downloading version 7 (the previous version, still available for download) and see if that has the same problem. If it doesn't, then it's likely the issue is with the new GPU Acceleration feature in version 8. I've had to disable the feature for my own aged video adapter, but Vojtech is working on a fix for my problem. You might try disabling GPU acceleration (click on the main Settings button, the option is at the bottom of the list) and see if that changes CPU usage.

Thanks for the tips, Bitflipper. I did disable the GPU acceleration and it didn't help. Vojtech is on it. It's behavior is almost like a memory bleed. The Core 0 (1st core) meter jumps considerably when I insert the plugin and then continues to rise after making a couple of parameter adjustments and then hits red and drops out. Very weird. I've never had a plugin do this before.

Even if it's not the GPU acceleration, I'd still suspect it's related to some other video optimization. The CPU hit from the analyzer views has been an ongoing complaint about Melda plugins, so I suspect it's been the focus of some optimization efforts. From my own experience, I know that when you try to get clever with graphics you invariably run into exceptions and incompatibilities with various adapters. They're tough problems to address because they typically apply to a small number of users with specific system configurations. Have you tried any other Meldaproduction plugins to see if it's specific to MDynamicEQ or across the product line?

Cannot replicate the problem. I am running X3e though. There were some changes to SONAR which addressed some MeldaProduct 8 issues while it was still in beta. Not sure if they would fix this. I do run with GPU acceleration enabled.

Oops, should update my signature. I'm also on X3e Scook. And I don't see this behavior on any other of Melda's plugs. Or any other plugin, for that matter.

bitflipper I'd try downloading version 7 (the previous version, still available for download) and see if that has the same problem.
I also bought the MDynamicEQ about a month ago but have been too busy to download it. I thought perhaps with my old system and Sonar 8.53, I'd try version 7.13 before upgrading to version 8, but I can't find it on the Melda site. Do I need to contact them or am I missing it somewhere? Thanks, Robby K
