Weird Excessive Volume Issue When Importing *.wav File

I have an odd thing happening with a project that has a  single audio track's volume outputting very high and overloading buses and my speakers, even though the same audio track plays fine and as expected in another project using the same gain settings.  Here's how it happens:

1:  Usual mixdown of a project recorded at 44.1/24: Bounce Mix to Track -- ProChannel limiter at -.2 dB limit on Master Bus ("post fader").  Waveform looks and plays fine - no clipping or overs.  Max volume peaks at -.4dB.  RMS around -13 dB.

2.  Export 32-bit .wav file with no track or bus FX or changes in volume.

3.  Import/Insert that .wav file into a track in a new project with no other audio.  Waveform looks fine, same as when exported.

4.  Play track with no FX, no gain boost, no nuthin'.

5.  Meters show extreme volume overloading of track - speakers also distorting.  This happens whether I route the output to the Master Bus (no volume, gain or FX added) or directly to my audio interface (Mackie ONYX 1200F).

Curiously, the same exported *.wav file plays nice when opened in SoundForge Pro 11.

I checked everything for hidden volume envelopes and other automation, no hidden extra audio playing, etc.  Does anyone know why this might be happening?

Thanks,
Bill
