Weird Kontakt/Freeze Behavior

I use Scarbee basses hosted in Kontakt 5 all the time (Jay Bass most frequently, followed by Rick, and then P Bass, in about a 65%/30%/5% ratio).

A song is up right now and something weird is happening: Freezing the bass takes a LONG time, and byt LONG, I mean like 20 minutes.

HINT: Even though I uninstalled EZ Drummer 2, EZ D 1 is in this track.  Freeze issues were the main reasons I uninstalled EZ D 2.

Thoughts?

    Antivirus?
Also try chkdsk followed by defrag.
Maybe a VST reset for good measure?

You might try rebooting your computer. Extremely long render times can be an indication of RAM exhaustion. Even if you have a lot of memory, memory leaks can cause you to run low if your computer's been up for a few days without being rebooted. Another possibility is that your disk drive is taking errors, causing multiple retries as the file is being written.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Any recent windows updates? Last week my DAW suddenly started to act strange and giving random errors that pointed to HD failure or ram issues. I had to take it to the kids in town for repairs. It was hard to diagnose but eventually was traced to the last updates I installed. I've talked with 2 other people with the same issues stemming from the updates last week.

I only mention it because cause and effect can seem to be related when they are not. For example, if you track ice cream sales and boating accidents the numbers would indicate that the two are related. The real culprit is a third factor called Summer.

This was mentioned before with respect to Kontakt, and removing a disc in the optical drive solved it. I know it's a WTF solution but if you have a disc in the optical drive, try removing it.

There was one other fix for long render times but I can't recall what it was...sorry.

Sorry for the OT, but I love stuff like this. Another great one I learned in statistics 101 in college was how taller people have progressively shorter hair. The real cause of course being gender averages.

Craig, I did have a CD in the slot and just removed it.  We'll see. Thanks.

Sanderxpander, Thanks for the free education and sarcasm, but I have a mathematics degree and spent many years as a successful software designer at IBM and I understand the difference between correlation and causality.

But many of us here probably don't, and threads are often used as a jumping-off point to deal with related issues which may or may not actually relate to the problem at hand. I think the intention was humor more than anything else.

Konradh, I didn't mean to educate you and there certainly was no sarcasm in my post. I reacted to an example ampfixer gave and I genuinely like these "fake causality" situations. I didn't mean to imply they were applicable to your situation, I even specifically apologized for going off topic. Sorry if you took it amiss.

"Some instances of EZD1 still say "ezdrummer 2" in the synth rack even after the uninstall, so there is a lingering piece of code or an incorrect dll somewhere"

Same here. I uninstalled EZ2 then EZ1 and reinstalled EZ1.
When I open EZ1 in a project the EZ2 interface shows.
Still waiting on Toontrack support to let me know how to remove EZ2 completely.

Grammar sure makes a difference, as well - and no, not Kelsey Grammar - (he has not made a difference in a long time - Expendables 3.  When did he become an action hero?):

Take this example: "How could you do that"

Is it - "How could you do that!"

Or is it - "How?  Could you do that?"

I believe adjectives in posts are often tinder for flame wars.
