Weird Toontrack EZD problem.

Ive got a close friend that I'm helping with Sonar/DAWs/MIDI...etc. He's a newbie and runs into lots of "roadblocks" I can usually solve over the phone. He bought one of the Toon EZD bundles yesterday and tried to install but kept getting a 1309error. I told him that meant he hadn't unzipped the files before trying to install them. I said wait till today and I'd come over and install EZD and all his vintage EZXs. Which I did. But here's the weird thing (or things)...first EZD didn't pop up the authorize dialog when first opened in Sonar...meaning he can't get a computer ID to get authorized with. Second...even though I checked and rechecked the routing...we can't get audio. MIDI seems to be working fine both from his controller and the mouse. The GUI drums show they are being struck but no audio shows on the EZD audio track. We loaded several other soft synths up and they worked fine.

So...no authorization request and no audio.

Your thoughts??

    Thoughts:
    1. Well, would he possibly have made a system backup prior to trying to install a zipped file? Even a restore point?
    2. Have you tried doing an uninstall/ reinstall for grins? That might undo a foobar.
    3. Do you have access to a magic wand? Sorry, couldn't resist but it is a thought...
    4. Contact Toontrack support.
    5. Maybe Dave will see this thread and pop in.

Wish I could help but don't know the answer. Obviously EZD is needing that ID to behave correctly. #2 would be the route I would go if you have not already been there and done that.

Just another thought. You wouldn't happen to have Toontrack solo on that machine so you could try to open EZD in it vs. the daw?

That's the first thing that I usually try.

I'm guessing it was a download version of EZD.  I always check to see if there is an update available for any download product.  No, you are not guaranteed that the download contains all updates.  If you are getting libraries, check those as well.  The automatic authorization popup windows came later than some of the libraries so be aware of that.  I ran into a problem with the Latin Percussion EZX that required a file update that was overlooked because that library had not been updated in a while.

Got him authorized through ez solo . Plays fine in solo too. Two things. Even though we loaded the 64bit update the 32bit plug is all that shows up and loads in sonar x1. Plus I now see that no samples are loading into EZD in x1. Hence no audio.

Probably confusing the plug-in manager. Make sure the 64bit dll is the scan path and the 32 bit version is not.

That's another thing...when we installed the 64bit update it didn't give us any dialogs at all...not even one to let us choose the dll folder.

Good advice, although if confronted with the choice of using a 64 bit or a 32 bit version of a plugin, SONAR will choose the 64 bit assuming that the plugin developer set it up with the same file name.

I agree that the scan path is the likely culprit.

If the DLL is in an odd folder, create a scan path to it and don't be tempted to DnD it into the Cakewalk VST plugins folder or you will have to repeat the process every time you do a product update.
