Weird problem since the Windows update
Ever since I updated Windows the other day, the volume on my interface is being reset to zero when Sonar loads a project. It's an RME Babyface so it has no "physical" volume control, just a free spinning rotary on the front which has the same functionality as using the fader in the interface software. This never used to happen. Anyone else?

Hey, James, I have the Babyface Pro version and ran the very latest Windows updates last evening but did not test with Splat afterwards, so I'll check later on and let you know if I can reproduce the issue. Sly

Don't use the RME but I did have to uninstall then install my audio driver after the update.

I have had to reinstall audio drivers in the past after some Windows Update maintenance, as well. I also used to have occasional issues with certain sounds from certain synths, because they were reacting to the Sonar default of Zero Out All Controllers..... And, I also used to have issues with some of the Native Instruments synths and volumes changing themselves and overriding any changes to volume that I had made, until I learned for those instances, to go into the Instrument Options>Controller (for Kontakt and Battery there is a wrench icon to get you to those settings for a given loaded instrument) - I would remove the check from the parameter labeled: "Accept standard controllers for volume and pan". I then saved that change to that instrument. Bob Bone

Latest update messed up my Addictive Drums installation. When loaded Sonar, got a message that the computer ID was not registered to use the AD products I had bought/installed. Had to launch AD Installer. Had to uninstall/reinstall my computer in the AD Installer. Works fine now.

Ok thanks, maybe I'll try reinstalling the drivers (or check if there's an update). Bob, I used to have terrible trouble with Sonar hosing the settings on Native Instruments synths. I'd load a project and as soon as I hit play, everything on the synth went to the default value. It also happened a lot with Waves plugins. I went back and forth with the Bakers about it and eventually a fix was rolled out which seemed to fix the problem with NI synths, but at some point over the last few months the problem has come back with some Waves plugins (especially the Q10 EQ and the SSL Channel Strip) and they're now seeing their settings hosed randomly upon loading projects. It's a major problem with Sonar and one of the main reasons why I was constantly thinking about jumping ship - I lost so many hours of work because of these bugs. Very hard to pin them down to write a meaningful bug report as well. The crushing blow is that I believe I had come across a clue as to why it was happening, and was able to send this reproducible clue to the Bakers. I really had my hopes up for an impending fix, and then boom! No more Cakewalk. Sigh!

Please give the Instrument Options tweak I posted a try - I use NI Kontakt and Battery in almost every project I create, and one I set each loaded instrument (that had a problem) per my post, I have never had another issue like that. Worth a shot, Bob Bone

That wouldn't help me with plugins like Q10 though would it?

You should always take an image of your drive before doing any Windows update. Or simply never do an update. You are playing Russian Roulette since no fix to rescue you will be forthcoming.

Windows 10 = HAL Windows has been trying to upgrade me to 1709 this month. After so many Remind Me Later clicks it finally tried to force it on me. The only way to stop it was to cut internet access. It still nags me every time I boot up but it's dead in the water without internet. I suspect there's a built in revolt mechanism that in time will either try to force an internet connection or completely shut down all together. Once I decide it needs internet, the upgrade will be inevitable. Either way, I now use a Windows 7 machine for internet. ... good thing my name isn't Dave!

That's my basic plan now too, I like the way you put it :)

dude, just disconnect from the internet. I've had serious problems with Windows updates in the past and Sonar. The only way to avoid this is to just disconnect. Microsoft is as bad as malware these days.

@soens you did, but it still can't be reiterated enough. I can't believe people are still keeping their PCs online while running Sonar Platinum. Especially the OP, as I know he uses a lot of MIDI and VSTs like I do.

Once I get reinstalled on my new pc (I think I got another month to go at my pace), I'm calling it quits to GAS as best I can, and moving my studio to the living room completely off the grid :)
