Weird thing just happened with my interface in X3. No connection/not showing up in Devices

It's working now after a reboot but it made me a little nervous something might be up. I'm using a Focusrite Scarlett 18i6. Here's what happened:

I booted up normally.

Opened the Scarlettmix panel to bring my buffers down to tracking levels. I noticed the samplerate was set to 44.1k but the project I'm working on is 48k (project was opened yet) so I figured I'd just switch it while I had the panel open.

After changing the samplerate I got a message saying the samplerate couldn't be changed and that it might because something was streaming audio. I had no other programs open and as I said I had JUST booted up the computer. I have all other audio devices on the system disabled (everything uses the Scarlett) and this was working fine yesterday. So even after that message the panel was indeed showing that the samplerate was 48k.

I opened X3 and I got ANOTHER message along the lines of "no connection to audio driver" or some such thing. I checked preferences and sure enough the Scarlett wasn't showing up in Devices (nothing was).

I freaked out a little and thought I might have to reinstall the driver but got a hold of myself and tried rebooting. X3 opened without the message this time but it took a loooooong time to get going and I got a short whiteout. I'm assuming it was just setting up the interface again but I don't know.

So... I'm just curious if this is something I should be concerned about. I'd hate to think my hardware is failing just as I'm starting to get to work. I'm sure it's just because I went and mucked around with the samplerate but I'm paranoid so I figured I'd ask you guys.

Cheers.

hmm... I think I may know what happened. Maybe the scarlett gets picked up by WMP at boot up and by switching the samplerate before opening X3 (which I think gets changed automagically anyway) I confused the system. I probably shouldn't do weird stuff like that, eh? lol

I keep the on-board sound enabled for my computer, BUT do not have my Presonus audio interface set as the default audio device for Windows - instead keeping the on-board sound as the default audio device.

It is only my audio applications, such as Sonar, and any stand-alone synths, that are set to use ASIO drivers.  Everything else, like WMP, uses the default on-board sound.

I route the speaker output from my computer's mini jack to a stereo splitter that also converts to 1/4", to my Presonus, so all sound routes to one set of speakers.

I do the above precisely to avoid other things grabbing the ASIO, and it also allows me to run WMP at the same time Sonar is running, for analyzing songs outside of Sonar at the same time I am recording me playing in Sonar.

    Hope that helps,

Yes, there was a bit of an unexpected windfall so I am indeed on X3 now. Just starting to mess with it but so far it's lookin' good. I'm gonna put together a new song to test everything out and get my bearings just like I've done with X1 and X2. Hopefully this one won't take a whole year to finish. lol

Hi, Bob. Yeah, I'll probably be setting things up like that when I wipe the system and start from scratch. So in your opinion I shouldn't really worry about this little bit of weirdness? Like it was my fault and not something breaking?

    Cheers.

Welcome to X3 Beepster, figured it would be sooner rather than later lol. Don't worry about songs taking a year to finish, I've got ones "on hold" and "in progress" older than that.

Thanks, sharke. Funny how life works itself out sometimes. With any luck this tune should come together rather quickly. Already got some riffs spilling out of me. I didn't actually spend a year on the last one... just took that long to get my head wrapped around everything to make a reasonable mixing attempt. Still gotta fix it up but I think all the effort was worth it. Cheers.

    Anyway... back to the riffin'.

Let's take a look at things once you get your reload completed.

Just remember to launch installs with Run As Administrator, with antivirus software temporarily suspended.

I always launch Sonar with Run As Administrator even after installs.

You can skip the X3b patch and go straight from X3a to X3c.  It is a cumulative patch.
