What will become of the Producer forum now? It'll be a ghost town by next Thursday.

Hey, I was just razzin Jeff, heh heh. I saw my name mentioned in your forum and couldn't resist. As soon as I saw the coffeehouse reopened, I thought I'd see how long it'd take for those in "the other place" to notice (not long as it turns out). For the record, I do think it's hip to be square. [that's enough wine for tonght].

    have a good one!

The return of Coffehouse which was once the most dynamic Forum on the web in the music biz back in the old Cakewalk Newsgroup days, with Guys like Phil Cody and Ted Perlman posting every day. I miss those days.

Well, pardon my pointless drivel, but I think pretty much everyone who participated in the flame-wars (ah, good times) was, wether they realized/intended it or not, a troll...Even the few classier ones like yourself who would clearly get mad (entertainingly so), but always maintained their composure. All anyone had to do was stop posting in the Coffehouse, but nobody did. To some (many), it was a territorial thing, and to others, it was twisted fun, but everyone who argued was responsible. Heck, I don't know why you guys don't just stick around this time. I don't believe anyone's going to risk going too far knowing that CW will shut 'er down again should the napalm and mustard gas start flying again.

Heh heh. Yeah, like "I remember when people were decent in here", or "This place used to be so nice before all those nasty metal-heads started coming here" or my personal favorite, "I miss talking about my cat".

And when their forum didn't feel like church anymore, they started moaning...and that's when it got fun. Fortunately, most musicians are a corrupt decadent bunch who drink and smoke and who's sex/drugs/rock 'n roll mentalities don't fit into a few people's Rated-G-world fantasies, and they really don't care if a handful of "Pleasantville" extras disaprove of their behavior. Naturally, it was funny as hell to witness the inevitable reaction when a tiny pious/righteous minority started complaining about the lowlife metal-heads and other unsavory elements. Good times!

There's a lot to be said in favour though....I look forward to the day where we can feel as at ease in this lil' ol' coffee parlour and really cut to the chase like quiche eating REAL men, as in this impressive example topic.

All this **** about the otherplace being for churchgoers is a complete load of bollocks. The community has its fair share of agnostics, secular humanists and downright atheists.

But as a musical community is it outstanding, and the songs forum offers the best production advice you'll get, much better than the back-patting ritual that is the cakewalk songs forum. For example, over the last four years, the relatively tiny Otherplace community has produced three compilation albums of their own material, two of them double CD packages. All of these have been self produced and self funded solely for the purpose of documenting the high quality of the songs forum output. They're also available from CD Baby and iTunes if you're interested.

What are you babbling about this time? Nobody's talking about the "otherplace" being for churchgoers. The reference to church which you're getting uppedy about was in reference to a handful of twits who used to hang out in the old coffeehouse and who criticized people they found unsavory for being themselves. Just like your logic in stating that people who hate dongles download warez, your 2+2=5 in this case too. The fact that that handful ended up in "the other place" is fine and dandy. From what little I've read over there, not everyone's been joining hands and singing kumbaya there either. Apparently they've had some problems there too. Coincidence? I couldn't care less.

I was talking about what happened in the old coffeehouse. Were you there? Is your memory holding out? Do you know what you're talking about?

Just to clarify the context in which I earlier used the word 'deacon'.

    bleeding deacon

    n. a person who believes himself indispensible to a group, esp. a person who becomes so over-involved in a group’s internal management, policies, or politics as to lose sight of its larger goals; (hence) a person with a negative, moralizing character, who acts like the sole source of wisdom.

    http://www.doubletongued.org/index.php/dictionary/bleeding_deacon/

    Ya know the type?

Some of my chums hang out the 'other place' y'know, (check me latest choon!) I got nothing agin it. But much like yer distaste for 'ritual back-slapping', demonstrations of smugness as the one I highlighted earlier in this thread as well as indicated on the 'Uh Oh' (not exactly a welcome back title is it?) thread currently over there did come across to me as the kinda thing that gets ME gagging. Perhaps wrongly but there you are.

    Jus' sayin'

There's absolutely nothing wrong with churchgoers per se. My "church" comment wasn't even necessarily aimed at churchgoers...it was aimed at people who not only prefer a stuffy old-fashioned "pleasantville" type environment (again, nothing wrong with that either), but who try to enforce such views in public music forums where the majority are musicians who lead a lifestyle and behave themselves in a manner that is contrary to such views (and that's where it goes wrong...or gets fun). I've got friends who are churchgoers, but at least they have the common sense not to criticize those who don't live the Pleasantville life. Seriously, no offence was intended to any religious folks. I know some religious folks who can drink me under the table!
