Welcome to Midnight (Now With Some Changes to the Vocals)
Here is a little Bluesabilly type of number inspired by but not sounding like Heartbreak Hotel. Yes, even though I went and got Studio One 3.5 (still on the exponential learning phase), I am using Sonar on this one. As always comments, crit's, suggestions, etc. will be much appreciated. Happy holidays all! WELCOME TO MIDNIGHT http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_music.cfm?bandID=963481

Hi Freddy I like this a lot - the dry vocals really work with it. The vocals remind me of Tom Petty somehow. Merry Christmas mate

Hi Daryl. Thanks for the comments. I recorded the vox dry and mainly in the mid's as I was trying to get a kind of hollow feeling to the vocals thinking that might add to the "blue" mood of the song. I hope it worked. Thanks again. Thank you Wookiee. I really liked your most recent post.

Hi Lynn. Thank you for your kind words and encouragement over the past year. I return the compliment -- I really have enjoyed the songs that you have posted and look forward to the ones that you will be posting next year. I hope that you have a very Happy New Year. Hey Tom. I'm glad to see you back on the forum. I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas and that all is well with you. Thank you for your comments. I have always appreciated your comments and insightful suggestions over the years. As soon as I get the audio interface working on my regular PC (I made the mistake of installing a new !@#*&#@! driver that is causing skips, hiccups, and popping), I'll give another listen and check out adding more verb. I hope that we will be seeing more of the Distant Tower's songs on the forum in the coming year. Have a very Happy New Year. Hi James. I hope that you had a great Christmas. Thank you for your kind comments and for your suggestions on my past posts. I very much appreciate them (I need all the help I can get)!! I must return the complement, as I have really enjoyed what you have posted during the past year and hope to hear lots more in the coming year. Hi Bjorn. Thanks very much. I too have enjoyed what you have posted -- including the most recent (The Promise You Made). I hope to listen and enjoy more of your songs next year. I hope that you have a wonderful New Year.

Some real nice guitar tones in there. I thought the bass playing was particularly good Fred.

Seriously, Freddy, you should try your hand at a Tom Petty cover. Or at least one of the 60's classics The Heartbreakers would have covered. But assuming you've no interest in covers (no need, your originals are great) I'd still suggest giving Jace Everett a listen for inspiration. His genre is hard to categorize but I'd call it progressive rockabilly. Whatever you call it, it's what came to my mind as I was listening to your stuff. I especially enjoyed "It Ain't Right". Oh, and this new one's pretty good, too!

Hi Wayfarer. Thanks for listening and for the kind words. A long time ago, in a place not so far away, I was in a band. The guys in the band wanted me to play bass because no one wanted to play it. I didn't want to either but I agreed. What they didn't know is that I didn't know diddly-squat about playing bass. I (justifiably) didn't last long in the band. So --- your comments about the bass are much appreciated!!! Thanks for listening and your suggestions Dave. I appreciate you comments about covering a Petty song or two. I very much like some of his songs. I don't know if I could handle them but I may just give one a try. I have recorded a couple of covers (e.g., Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, Everly Brothers, Buffalo Springfield, The Nightcrawlers ---oops, that's more than a couple) but I have not posted them. I guess I am too timid about copyright and performance infringement. Thanks also for turning me on to Jace Everett. I don't know how you would classify his stuff either but I think that you are close with progressive rockabilly. He has an interesting style and I love that baritone voice!

Cool stuff, Freddy. It's got a great retro vibe (yeah, I hear a little Elvis influence) but with a big and open modern mix. Sounds really good. I do wonder though what the vocal would sound like with just a little slap-back delay riding underneath.

Mr Freddy, Enjoyed hearing this one very much! Always like the swing bluesy boogie woogie sounds. Just a suggestion, change the song where you are singing about grabbing a bottle and it causing you to meet with the devil, and sing it where you sound mean as H.E. Double L at times while telling the story. When I say mean, I mean "Double Characters and emotions". Not sure if I said that right. Just a thought and suggestion, no offense meant. LOL, I'm sorry I hear things different sometimes I guess than others. I enjoyed hearing it just like it is, the mix sounded great! Bobby

Freddy J, I'm listening, and I say to myself, "Tom Pettyish" Then I read some of the other comments and see that others thought the same. HA! Nice guitar work. I like your originals, keep it coming! JQS
