Welcome to the unemployment line.... [ Solved :) ]

The never want it to happen to any of us happened yesterday. Wife lost her job, money issues at the company and she was part of the fall out. So, we are dealing with that... won't be around here much while I help her get back out there. Kind of saw it coming, but ouch...

Seems minor compared to losing a home etc for people over in the east, thoughts are with you too.

Losing ones job is a much heavier and complex thing than many understand.
The ones diminishing it are usually (youngish) people with no plans for life, or ones with an education/profession that is unemplpoyment-immune.

One of the most nerve-eating situations is working in a company which is known to cut down in the relatively near future. That has driven people over the edge.

Keep the flags up on the poles and  look ahead over the nearest obstacles! My best wishes to you!

I've been in the line for over a year now.

Jobs are harder to find. In my field in the 80s and 90s if you sent your resume in you were hired. Today the job requirements are so narrow/specialized and the agents/headhunters & companies are hidden via the internet it's nearly impossible to get an interview to explain how your past experience is suitable.

I wish your wife all the best Tony.

Sorry to hear that Tony. The question, Now what? can lead to better things in the end, usually not without a few bumps along the way. I remember being unemployed and it isn't a pleasant memory. Best wishes your way.

Thanks all, at this stage of life the last thing we want is job hunting. I have had to sit back and watch her career while I brought up our son. That means I have no job qualifications that would pay our way... all up to her. First time ever of being out of work in her 26 years of work. New oppurtunities can arise of course out of adversity. I believe in that strongly, we have done it on international moves before etc..

    Cheers,

Yeah, what he said.  First B of A found a way to steal most of my money, then you can't find a decent job any more and those of us that used to have the really nice jobs don't get hired for the small stuff because they say we're over qualified!  (Hey, I like to eat just as much as the next guy!)

    Hey All,

Well, I'm back sort of...  the situation has resolved itself as we hoped it would. Along with that though, comes a move. Soooooo, who here is in Houston?, what should I expect?, how to get into music scene there?. Wife starts work with HP and we move in January new year.

    Cheers,

Sorry to hear that Craig. Fortunately I was posting to say Leigh has a new job. It just means that once again we are on a major move, Houston. I wish all would have success this quickly after they are laid off...

Great news, Tony.  Too bad that move to Houston will prevent us from forming a band with Julibee.    How long before you move?

spacecowboy is from Houston, but he moved recently and I don't remember if he moved out of Houston or not.  I'm in Ft. Worth, but that's quite a long way from Houston.

Houston in mid-January:  be prepared for ice storms!  we don't get snow much in TX, but in winter we get freezing rain and that's worse, IMO.  you can't drive on roads that are iced.

I lived in Houston from 1980-1982.  Houston = Humidity.  But I have totally lost track of what happens there.
Moving and losing a job is always stressful...however, maybe it will open up a cool new door.

Good luck to you and your family Tony.
