I always wondered what they looked like and how they would ever pull off that song live.
No more wondering!
Our local radio station played that song all the time, back in the day.
I think they are a "one hit wonder".
Thanks for posting.

Ya, it's pretty cool.

Sadly, I don't think it was a sustainable venture. Watched another version and singer dood sounded like he was coughing up a hairball. Painful to watch.

Apparently you never watched MTV back in the day, and never heard of YouTube in recent years?

I liked the production and arrangement. The violins and banjo were good too.
I always thought it was a female singer.
I didn't watch MTV back then... I was too busy playing with my Amiga and Dr. T's and hardware synths and samplers.
I even had the SMPTE box so it would sync up to tape.

They had 2 No. 1 singles here ('Geno' was the other), and several other top 20 songs. Not a fan myself, but they were OK.

You could do a worldwide search of birth records and baby names for 2017, and I bet you would not find a single baby girl given the name "Eileen"

All because of this rotten song.  :)

I was a graveyard shift DJ on local radio when this song came out.  It was a fun song for the first 10 spins...

The girl in the official video (not the one in this thread) is kinda cute, though, so I can endure it for that.

Only 'DJ'd' once, in 1978. My pal Tim and I were asked by our friend to take over his hospital radio show for one Saturday evening.

Being 18, we thought it would be a good idea to take a bottle of Captain Morgan rum to 'loosen us up', and bring our own records.

We quickly got bored of 'spinning' the usual playlist of Sinatra, big band tunes, classical and easy listening, and treated the wards to Jethro Tull, The Who, XTC, Monty Python and others...complete with increasingly tipsy and surreal between song links..

Strangely, he never asked us again.
