Well then... I just found the SRV "Little Wing" tone I've been searching for in TH2...
and it was easy as farting. None of the presets were getting me close and anytime I tried to laboriously build my own preset it never quite got that jangly tone. Well I was just trying to set up a simple config to practice along with some general blues/jazz MIDI backing tracks I'm creating. The starter preset (the one that loads when you open TH2) was a nice clean tone so I figured I try working with that a bit. I tossed the Tube9 overdrive pedal in front of the amp head and VIOLA! Closer than I've ever been. I set the toggle on my souped up Pacifica to include the single coils (in all but the pure humbucker bridge settings I'm getting variations on a nice SRV tone) and on the Tube9 pushed up the tone to almost full and turned up the overdrive a little and now my pots and toggle are responding like a Strat through whatever the heck Stevie was using for rig. Sounds better than even going through my amp (this is purely on line in through my Focusrite Scarlett 18i6). Just for clarity I'm on the full version of TH2 (not sure if the Sonar edition starts on the same preset). The amp head is the Overloud thingie with the SLR fader set all the way to the left channel which is set to the Darkface 65 (didn't tweaked any of those settings unless I did so yesterday when I was first playing around but I don't think I did). I inserted the Tube9 Overdrive pedal in between the guitar and the head. The cab and mic settings are the default TH2 setting and the reverb module is inserted (again I didn't touch those settings). With at least one single coil thrown into the mix it jangles all nice and pretty but still sounds good on the bridge humbucker. Just thought I'd share. Cheers.

I only have the Producer version, but I'm printing this out to check - I likes me some SRV strat tone. Thanks, Beep!

Hi, Lynn and Steve. Just been jamming around with this for an hour and it is responding very well to all pickup positions and the push pot settings on the Pacifica. It gets a LITTLE sim sounding really hi up the neck when I'm playing super quiet at a low volume pot setting but that might be the TH2 gate affecting the tone. I am however doing all this through the headphones but I find that usually sounds worse for sims than through the monitors. I also have not done a single thing to the track yet in the way of EQing, compression or other effects sure I could probably make this even nicer sounding. Also if anyone is looking for a nice sounding MIDI bass for just screwing around with I'm using Zeta + 2 set to "Factory > Bass 1 > Picked Alembic BT". There are probably better sounding bass patches in the lists upon lists of stuff that came with X2 but this one is working nicely for just a straight clean bass. Good attack and not too intrusive. Cheers.

In TH2 you might want to try the Bassman sim as well. It is a little thicker than the Darkface. I use the Marshall plexi myself. I prefer the original Hendrix version over Vaughn's. TH2 has become a regular for me. I am in the process now of setting up my POD HD500 as a midi controller for it. I have Amplitube and Guitar Rig but there is just something about TH2 that seems a little more responsive.

Are you using the Producer version of TH2? I was so impressed with that, I went ahead and bought the full version. Tons of pedals and the Brunetti amps and cabs are jaw dropping.

Thanks for the tip on the Bassman sim, Sidroe. I'll check that out. It's seems to be pretty easy to get pretty good thick rock/metal tones and super clean modern country tone with sims but man has the blues jangle really been alluding me until now. And I'm on the full version. After hearing what the Producer version could do I jumped on it but could have very easily gotten a lot done with Producer. I had just upgraded to GR5 before X2 came out and although I'm sure I could still find a place for it on my stuff it just does not produce the same realism as TH2 does to my ears. THAT was a mighty fine add on to Sonar IMO. I plan on getting the MarkII Bass sim at some point too because of how impressed I was with TH2. And you're about that Brunetti. It's great. I like it much more than the Randall stuff and I'm (usually) a metal guy. Couple on stompboxes and it sears. Cheers.

Thanks to Beepster for the great TH2 SRV tone tip!! Kudos to you. I spent some time working with the idea, and I think I have moved closer to the SRV tone: Warm low end (without mud) and those almost bell tone bright highs. Here is the gist. Starting with Beepster's formula, I swapped the amp to Overload's Custom amp, with cab, and set to Channel One for both A and B. Both are also set to "Bright." Then, to help fill out the sound and give it presence, I added the following: a wave chorus and room reverb. These have to be subtle to be believable, so the wave chorus should have a speed of 25hz or less, and the reverb time should not be higher than 600ms. Next, instead of the Tube9 Overdrive, I used Diode 250 overdrive. Tone and Level need to be at about 3:00 O'Clock. Then - and I know this is counter-intuitive - I added at the beginning of the chain the Rock Wah and have it cocked all the way forward. This fills out the highs and surprisingly makes them more bell-like. Finally, at the end of the chain I have the Amp EQ with the mid-highs massaged a little upwards. Regards
