Western Digital Caviar Green series hard drives

From personal experience, just wanted to pass the word on that these hard drives, IMHO, really don't belong in a DAW, go with the Black series.

I have a green for my sample library drive and it literally takes forever to backup with Norton Ghost or Acronis because of the varying rpm speed of the drive.

Stay away!

+1 for the Caviar Blacks I have 3 of them

I Picked them becuase I heard they were the most popular for DAW builders and I was suprised to see they werent that much more that the Blues or the Greens if you shop about

Thats a good warning for folks Gustabo!

FWIW, I've just had to return a 1TB WD Caviar Black as it was faulty on arrival.

It simply wouldn't spin up at all, I was just getting some weird, mechanical grinding noise, BIOS wouldn't recognise it, Windows couldn't see it, the Add New Hardware Wizard just laughed at me.

All in all, very disappointed (and a waste of many hours of precious time), even though I've gone with WD Black for years.

that can happen with any drive... the WD black 64meg cache drives have had a very low fail rate
