Seems nothing will be shut down for a bit and seems Sonar will be fine to use for now so what DAW works with it? Meaning a DAW that has different functions that can work inside ot along side? I know probably all of them BUT I mean there has to be one or 2 you guys use with it. Suggestions please

It seems to me, from other posts on this forum, that Presonus studio one 3 is the closest in work-flow to SONAR. I downloaded a demo and was recording in about 5 minutes without referring to the manual. That doesn't mean that I can do everything I did in SONAR, it just means the basics are easy. Good luck to you!

I also checked Studio One and we could nothing do what we did in SONAR. This is because we misused SONAR to digitize thousends of tapes and vinyl, and the workflow from Studio ONE is so, that we cann't misuse Studio One for our work. It depends on the needs. If you only use vst-synthesizers or if you use real instruments. If you need to experiment or if you record an orchestra.
We digitize tapes, vinyl, dat, md ... in broadcast and studio quality for publishers, public institutions and individuals.4 x Intel Quad-CPU, 4GHz Sonar Platinum (Windows 10 - 64Bit) and 14 computers for recording tapes, vinyl ... 4 x RME Fireface 800, 2 x Roland Octa Capture and 4 x Roland Quad Capture, Focusrite .... Sorry for the OT, but just read Cakewalk is ceased by Gibson, so no more development for Sonar and related products, which are dead. As a Platinum registered owner and a Cakewalk customer since year 1995 , I want to give my solidarity to the Cakewalk workers/engineers, which maybe (hope not) will lose their work; hope they may go on in their Sonar work under another brand, and mainly I want to to tell: Gibson SHAME!!

I think Ableton and FL Studio both compliment Sonar. They both do things much harder to achieve in sonar.

Thank you! This seems like the right way to go for me. Sonar might work great for years why not use something with it instead of totally starting over. Please keep the suggestions coming

My biggest concern of all in a new DAW is easy of use for plug-ins. I am able to so custom arrange by name, edit names, etc. in a way where I can find any effect in my hundreds of freeware and bundled VSTs, and many more I paid ridiculous money for so I can work quickly. I tried the Harrison DAW for laughs (it was on a super sale - a few years ago for like $20) and uninstalled it and had to go wash my hands after. Terrible, terrible VST implementation regarding ability to customize and rename and organize. That's my biggest issue. Basic setting up tracks, mute or unmute, splitting, automation, there are not big differences there. The 2x oversampling built in is fantastic also, appreciate Craig Anderton having that idea. I don't think any other DAW does that. What I have in the latest update to Sonar Platinum is all I need and stable. I'm happy to just stick with that indefinitely to be honest.

I currently use Live to sketch out ideas and then develop the ideas in Sonar so I think it's a good compliment - I think Bitwig maybe as well. Note that Live does not support vst 3 so you can't use the latest Calkwalk LP plugins in it. And even with a new release it looks like Live 10 doesn't support vst 3 so I don't think it will replace Sonar.

FemcanLana Whats better FL Studio or Reason?
I avoid phrases like "better" because it is so subjective. They are very different and both have pros and cons. Reason is an amazing program and may offer the best self contained production system out the box. With that said, if you are looking to emulate styles of mainstream dance and hip-hop/urban pop songs, FL is dominating in that area now. I honestly believe it is a matter of preferred workflow.

Bitwig is eerily similar to Ableton but different enough not to be a total clone. I think Reason and FL give you better instruments out the box .

It is so weird it doesn't support vst3. I have a lite version of live and i love the sampler. Couldn't replace sonar with it, but love it as a compliment

I was surprised to see that Live 10 doesn't include support for vst 3.

Maybe it's because the critical parts of live are non-vst based? Most live users i know use another DAW as well

if you are looking for a DAW that is like Sonar in its overall philosophy The one that comes closest is Cubase. The reason I say this is because both are at their hearts are MIDI sequencers. The next is Logic. Reason and FL Studio are more or less similar in that they both come from MIDI sequencers of a certain type. The rest are often more or less audio multi-track editors.

Sadly, the DAW i found most Sonar-like is Apple's Logic Pro X which woukd force the user (me) into OSX!
Not a happy thought...

At first i feel for you, these are shocking news ... I'm mainly a Cubase Pro user since many years, then Samplitude PRoX3 user as well (only mixing), i'm also a little bit a Sonar Platinum user, and very little bit a S1 user ;) It depends which project i get. But mainly my productions are recorded, edited, mixed with Cubase Pro. Music style -> Indie/Rock/Pop and indie ballads. Projects are between 30 audio tracks and 120 audio tracks (all recorded via microphones), 3 VSTis until 10 VSTis and sometimes i used special midi functions like a lot of midi fx and so on. Usually i compose "in" the DAW, therefore Cubase is excellent, because you can use Chord Tracks, i use this function like a chord lead sheet. All in all, for composing, recording, editing and mixing, Cubase Pro is for me the "right" DAW. I know, everyone use other functions and workflows, but i'm missing a lot functions in Sonar i have in Cubase: - Track Versions like Playlist in ProTools, this is one of the best functions in the DAW-World If you record acoustic drums or different melodies for vocals or guitars on the same track, then you know what i mean - An included fine Pitch Shifter like Melodyne (at the moment only monophonic material), is called VariAudio, this function is fully included. Although i have Melodyne 4, without ARA it is more complex, but i never needed Melodyne for Vocal correction, Variaudio have a good quality. - A complete and very good Audio Editor (a tons of destruktive and non destruktive functions) - Fully resizeable MixConsole, from my point of view better overview as well - Key Command function is much more professional - 64 Bit Audio Engine is introduced with version 9.5 - Take Comping is excellent - Data management is way better than in any other DAW, for example if you delete audio clips (in cubase events) you can delete it without panic to loose audio files. In all these years i never lost a audio file! and much more and of course there are some functions that are not involved in Cubase ;) I write this down for just to help you, which DAW could be a good successor for Sonar. Ups i forgot, three years ago i tried Sonar Flagship and bought it. THe difference to Cubase is not big, it was not a big problem to work with Sonar within one week.
Cubase Pro 9.5 64 Bit | CBB | Samplitude ProX3 | Win7 64 | Gigabyte X99 UD7 WiFi | I7 5820K | RME ADI-2 via spdif RME Fireface UC | 32 GB RAM
