Nice track – lyrically and musically – very well put together. Creative stuff – worthy of several listens. I love the way they throw in unexpected timing and chords – nice cuts with the rhythm track. A simple theme but a very “gutsy” feeling to it. Yes, the bottom line is that the girl is what you want. Great stuff all around. Recording sounds terrific to me – tell the band members (and the writer in particular) they’ve got the goods.

Well, regardless of what you used, the mix is perfect IMO. The vocals are right up front where they should be and all the instrumentation is crisp and clearly heard as they should be. I also agree, it is a very awesome song, who ever wrote and arranged it. So, great song and a great mix on your part. A job you can surely be proud of, nice work.

    Peace and blessings, John

Ok.  This is one of the best songs that I have heard in a long time.  Very creative arrangement and songwriting.  As mentioned, unexpected timing and chord changes.  Mix sounds very good, even on my iPhone.  Love the vocals.  Love the guitar tones.  This band has tude.

I was wondering what part of Texas you were from Ivey.  I am very familiar with athen's.  We do some blue berry picking down that way early summer. Is this a local band?  I understand that Lake Athens is pretty good for bass s well.

Lake Athens has gotten really good for bass fishing. A lot of big bass being caught on a regular basis.
Honestly i know nothing about the band, i downloaded the tracks off a website and mixed and mastered them. Just a few minutes ago i sent the band the link to my mix for them to listen to.

Dude - first off the tune is hot!  The singer is great!  On the mix - everything sounds perfect to me.  IMO a difficult thing in this genre is getting the kick / bass guitar right.  The kick sounds perfect - just the right amount of compression and the right EQ.  And the bass guitar fits in really well.  And all the other tracks are well mixed and crystal clear.  Can you explain how you arrived at that punchy kick?

    Re:What I Want 2013/08/11 20:45:28 (permalink)
The first thing i did was replace the kick with a sample from Superior Drummer because the whole drum kit sounded pretty good except the kick. I tried everything i knew to do to it but i couldnt get it like i wanted so, i replaced it using audio snap. So the kick is 100% sample. I got an EQ and the Cakewalk TS-64 on the kick bus. All the drums have parallel compression on them. So, i cheated on the kick but i think it rocks pretty good and it sounds really good in my truck too!
Thanks to You and Tim for listening!

Thanks to all who listened and took the time to comment. I've been takin a break from mixing because for a while thats all i did or thought about. It was time to get outside and move around and more important, give my ears a break! I went from this song to mixing two songs for people on this forum. I'd mix every night and listen every chance i got thoughout the day. I've just been enjoying listening to music again!! But i still pick the mix apart! LoL!
