What I did on my summer vacation

I had a goal of getting a lot of things done around the house and yard this summer. As I mentioned in the spring, I started building a deck to put a new hot tub on. Got that done. Then I replaced the fence. 58 panels. Done. Then I had 20 cubic yards of mulch trucked in for landscaping. Done. Then we decided to paint the entire exterior of the house. Done.

Here's a less than 60: slideshow. It takes a few seconds to start. I'm going to take a nap now. Somebody wake me up in the spring.

Still a lot of yard left to something with. Perhaps a swimming pool next spring. Or not.

Thanks Herb. The trim is actually cream colored. I made mistake of calling it yellow and "she who must be obeyed" sternly corrected me.

I kinda like painting.... when I only have to do it every couple of years... it is the kind of job that gives such instant satisfaction.  I'm planning to paint the porch railings soon, before the paint starts to peel.... I power washed and then hand scrubbed the mildew off and calked the cracks..... just waiting on a cool fall Saturday morning to get started.

My goal over the years has been to get as much pf the paintable surfaces of my houses covered with something that doesn't have to be painted..... all that is left on my house is the porch.. the rental house.....well... that's another story.... but it is much smaller and one of those jobs that can easily be done in a day or two. It has the old asbestos siding shingles on it so painting is the better option now..... removing that stuff would be a real pain with the environmental laws being what they are.... so I paint it every few years on the outside. Single story, small house.... no problem.

The deck looks killer.  That is one big backyard to mow. All that work makes me feel LAZY. I won't be showing the wife this post!

A shade of 'New Gardenia' would have worked well on the trim too.

Actually it all looks really nice, I like a big lawned area, it's good for football, bbq's and backyard gigs and once those border plants get established it will all look stellar.

Not sure why you replaced all the fencing, I guess the old stuff must have been much worse than it looked from here.  I don't think you'd have done it just for 'fun'...

Nice job & place Randy! I put in a fence this year too. Not the kind of thing I want to do very often. I can understand the work that went into replacing it. The deck looks like a nice place to go hang out in the evening with whatever kind of cold one you like. The hot tub is probably really nice after a long day.

Looks like you met those goals 100%....you do know it's not over right? It's never really over, I can attest to that :)

The fence was in pretty bad shape. I liked the rustic look of it, but it had gotten to where my dog Elvis, who is now 95 pounds of crazy, would see a squirrel, bird, shadow of a bird, whatever, would chase whatever it was to the fence and jump on it with his front paws. After he broke through the fence and scared the beejeezus out of the lady next door, it was time for a new fence. Actually, it was time for a new dog, but what's a guy to do? The dog thinks I'm just the greatest thing, other than licking his privates.
