Actually today is the real 50th Anniversary as it was the day they landed in America. And, technically speaking it was not Feb 9th that they "first" appeared on American TV. Yes, the first live performance but they were actually shown on film from Liverpool on the Jack Paar show about a month before they appeared on Ed's Really Big Shew.

Well, I am a die hard Beatles fan; they landed in America on my birthday 50 years ago today. Yes, I was only 11 years old but I was already into them BIG TIME since I had seen the film clip on the Jack Paar show a month earlier. I was pumped up to see them on the BIG SHEW Eddie put on every Sunday night.
I have a different appreciation, to be honest, I never liked their sound. But I like their music, playing their songs on a synth with piano and a mellow pad brings home how extremely talented they were, and Paul still is, as songwriters...and I suppose as performers, if you like their sound. Indeed all of the bands solo careers brought much better performances from each of them as far as I have enjoyed. So while I am not particularly interested in them as a band, I am in awe of their talents as song writers and solo performers.
