What Is This T C L ...Jazz Guitar
Hi Guys , Here's my Jazz Guitar improv over the changes to What Is This Thing Called Love ... this is my 1 st time playing over these changes. btw..... this clip is actually a homework assignment for an online course that I'm taking . I kept it simple .....played the tune once to set my guitar level in record mode then I recorded it (this was my second run through of the song and its one take ...no overdubs ) https://soundcloud.com/guitarist-kenny-wilson/what-is-this-t-c-l I hope you enjoy , Kenny

Really beautiful melodic playing. Reminded me of Tal Farlow or Jim Hall.

Hi Frank , My Guitar on this clip is a Washburn J 4 , it looks sort of like a big Howard Roberts style guitar. I recorded my guitar direct , then I added a tweed amp simulation from Guitar Rig FREE thanks for giving this clip a listen .... I appreciate that you enjoyed my tone and playing Kenny

This is the kind of music that I grew up listening to between the Beatles and Stones. That's a great sound from the free Guitar Rig. I have that, too, so I'll have to give it a spin. Anyway, the song and your playing deserve an A+.

When I saw the title, for some reason my eyes played a trick on me and I thought it was "What is love" (baby don't hurt me) which oddly enough is what I said to my "escort" recently? That riding crop can sting... I don't know how you play in all of those different keys? Actually I do, but it's just that I could never do it. I think of lead as "in a key" a musician like you in a song like this thinks of lead as "in a chord" and those cords are constantly moving. So you play through one and then land in the next key/shape/scale. I understand how it works, I just don't understand how someone can do it. Good job.
Sittin downtown in a railway station one toke over the line.

Hi Lynn, I would say that GR free delivered that little bit of something extra that was missing from my dry sound ..... at some point when the funds permit I would like to get it unlocked .... I'm happy that I played some guitar music that you enjoyed and felt familiar with Kenny

Hi Robby , I've been wrestling w this sort of thing " how do you do this " myself for a lot of years.... I would practice scales, arpeggios, and chord changes in just about every key until I was blue in the face .. I always felt that I got a lot out of that type of practice since it translates well to other forms of music Yet , if my life depended on it , I always felt as if I couldn't play my way out of a paper bag when I got hit w changes I didn't understand or know ..... w this clip I just did my best to look ahead through the changes and land on my feet musically I have come to the conclusion that there are no real easy answers .... Here I am , and I'm no spring chicken enrolled in an online class trying to find a few answers on how to do this ..... thanks for taking the time and giving my jazz guitar playing a listen Kenny

Hi Rik , I'm glad you liked my playing on this song . true it is possible the guitar could come up a little .... the guitar lines in that whole section around 1:44 onward seem to flow pretty good .... I think my fingers must of hit a good stretch of fretboard ;) Kenny
