What Kind of Scam Is This VST Sale On EBay?

Go to ebay and search on "vst supreme collection".  It's ***way*** too good to be true.  But I can't figure out what the scam is.  Is the guy just selling air, or has he found some way to pirate all this stuff to make it look semi-legit?

Actually, I found this because another item listed by this guy was Omnisphere, plus Trillian plus Stylus, buy it now for 55 pounds (that's what ... about 85 bucks?).  Claims they are new and he has five packages to sell.

Looking at the seller's buying history, I see that he has just purchased 100 blank disks.  This must be significant.

His selling history shows previous sales of VST disks too.

No big mystery... They are cracks/warez, plain and simple (shared serials, hacked copy protection, etc).

He just hasn't been reported yet.  And obviously his customers are happy with their stolen purchases, so he gets a good feedback rating.

Forgive my lack of experience in these matters.  I haven't shopped for much software on ebay, but to the extent I have, I haven't come across anything this blatant before.

I'd be perfectly happy to be a good citizen and alert the authorities.  But who does one alert in these cases?  Ebay?  Spectrasonics?

Report him to ebay. They are very quick about taking down anything that even looks suspicious.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Now that he's reported, he won't be there long.

And I hope you didn't think my eye-rolling was directed at you.  (I was referring to his customers).

So, can't these guys just open up a new ebay account and try and establish themselves (get good ratings) once again in order to continue selling pirated stuff?
    (I don't use ebay so I'm clueless)

Sure, but to to set up a seller account, you have to provide a valid credit card and street address (which Ebay verifies).  If the seller in question gives any of the same info for the new account, I would imagine he'd go on a "watch list" to make sure he doesn't try to sell the same stolen goods.

And even if he managed to use a different CC and address, anyone inclined to stop the (illegal) auctions by this seller could easily do so by searching for the same wording or items he used before, then reporting it to Ebay.  Again and again and again....

So, no, it likely wouldn't be easy for this seller at all.

Apparently the item on eBay has now been discontinued.  However, the seller still has other bootleg software still up for sale.  The eBay people don't dig very deep in their investigations.

I don't know how to do it, but if his paypal account was flagged or similar it would have alot more effect. Lot's of these sort of things on ebay though, just search for plugins or libraries and set ebay to display lowest price first.
