What a rush!

A guy that use to work with the company just
gave me a ride in his Mini Cooper. ( he's back to do some
engineering stuff....reminds me of a joke)

First time I've been in one. It was turbo charged and we did some high speed
on a road with very tight and nice corners....I smiled the whole ride!

What a fun little car. It seemed to be very well built too. I could get in trouble
with one of those....his was an -09 turbo charged.

OH yeah, the joke...

Doc that thinks he knows the brain was doing a study.
He took a minor (like in coal), a book keeper and an engineer and
put them in different rooms and gave each 3 big steel balls.
He went back and checked on them;
The engineer had them stacked and balanced.
The bookkeeper had them numbered and filed away.
The coal minor had lost one, broke one and had one
in his lunch box.

    There's a reason I drive a mini van.

There's an outfit near Atlanta that takes the old ones and puts a 3.3L Honda race motor in it... the stories I've heard is that very few people can keep them on the road. :-)

I heard once that the Coopers have some connection with BMW.  Is there any substance to that?

Yes, the new ones are made by BMW and some have a very cool constant drive velocity transmission a.k.a continuously variable transmission.

What Mike said Russell and the auto "sport" transmission
has controls on the steering wheel.

I think the car puts fun back in driving. I wouldn't mind
it for around town and short trips.
Long trips for two and you'd have the back seat for luggage.

I don't know much more about the car than what I thought from the ride....fun.

    Michael,

Can you build me one at cost?

    Well......
    I restored a '69 Chevelle 396SS which was mostly a build....
I'm sure it cost me more than they sold for new but the guy
that bought it sure didn't get it "at cost" and we were both
    smiling...big time.

But to answer....nope. No time. If I don't finish what I'm doing
    I may get in trouble.
    And there's a '69 El Camino 396SS ( wife's) that I still haven't finished.
No time. I'd trade it "as is" for an old Mini. lol.
