What are these FREE Digital Sound Factory sound packs?

I don't see these being available at the Cakewalk store and want to know what they are exactly and if it's just something they quickly put together to promote the upgrade and sale of X1.  If I upgrade through a retailer, my copy won't arrive until after Feb 28th and by the time I register the promotion has ended; so how can I still get these sound packs if I choose to upgrade through a retailer?

@ Daveny5: They should be in your Cakewalk account at the store. Look under downloads, and there should be 2 new ones.

Yup. They should be in your account. 2 teaser packs for Rapture and a few more instruments for Cakewalk Sound Center. Nothing spectacular but usable and a nice gesture from CW.

Oh yeah... Also "Digital Sound Factory Rapture Examples".

so these FREE sound packs apply to anyone who purchased or upgraded to X1 prior to them advertising this promotion?  What about the folks like me who are considering upgrading to X1 but won't order until later tonight or before the 28th and won't be able to register until the copy arrives which will most likely be after the 28th.  I can see someone walking into a retailer and picking up a copy and registering on up to the 28th but what about users like me who won't be able to register until I get the hard copy from an online retailer.

Well, don't count on it. I registerd a week ago but nothing shows in my CW store account. I wrote to CW store about it but no response so far. I did though got a mail from CW about this free download.

Well this offer has been available for less than a week and it ends Feb 28th so it seems pretty suspicious.  I am thinking bait and switch.  If some of their customers aren't getting the product and services that they paid for, I think that they are committing theft.  Perhaps one of the forum moderators can chime in and has an answer to my question.

Syntheticpop - I just earlier replied to your question about this on another thread.  I understand that it's seeming like an unfair promotion, but really, I can tell you that if you end up missing out on these expansion packs, you aren't missing much.  It really is just hype that these can be considered a $50 value.  They're like the freebies you can find most any week through KVR.  Don't lose sleep over it.

OK, I found them and installed them. Rapture found the examples after I pressed F5. The Sound Center, however, could not find the examples.

Whoever writes Cakewalks installation routines should be summarily dismissed. It seems like every product installation gets worse. I have everything in the default folder and Sonar doesn't find it. Of course there's no instructions either.

Yes, it looks like its something they cherry picked from the packs that are being sold which gives users a nice sampling, taste of the available sounds of the full  instrument/sound packs.  It's a great marketing scheme, to throw things in for FREE because people like hearing that word.  I just hope I'll still be able to download those packs after I register once my copy arrives.  Cakewalk should just extend that download period for folks who won't be able to register within a week or two after the promotion expires.  Or they could even extend that promotion for a longer period of time since its been up for less than a week.

Well it looks like they just extended that promotion until 3/31.  So either they have been following this post or planned it out in the manner that's being executed.  It definitely gives more users and new customers time to upgrade and get in on this promotion.

Please visit this page for more information on the promotion.

    http://www.cakewalk.com/page.aspx/Buy-SONAR-X1-and-get-two-free-sound-packs

Basically, if you upgrade through Cakewalk they will be included with your X1 download.

If you already upgraded through our store and/or are a registered customer, then it should appear in your store account. See the page for instructions on how to redeem.

This offer is good for anyone who has ever purchased or upgraded to SONAR X1 and will continue through March 31st, 2011.

Done. There was going to be a grace period regardless for people who purchase at a store. We have extended the offer. This 30-day grace period will continue through the end of April to allow anyone who purchased in March as well. For the most part, all retail specials usually have grace periods to account for the 30-day registration window.
