What audio interface are you guys using?
So I am using Sonar X1 Studio I've had it for about a year and I have had troubles with it working right with my current audio interface Propellerhead Balance and some issues with Reason and rewire as well. I chose to go Ableton Live and after doing so there are just a lot of things about Sonar I miss and I have since slowed down using Reason since picking up Maschine a couple months ago so now Sonar will fit my workflow again but I need something that works well with Sonar. I need something that I can plug my mic into and my M-Audio miniak as well. I do not record guitars or live instruments or anything like that just vocals for my YouTube vlog and and that I can record my miniak when I use it. I want to make sure it works well with Sonar and I don't want to buy another $500 audio interface because I do not think I need all of that. It also needs to be usb because I work off of a laptop

I have a M-audio 2496 PCI card in my desktop and Roland/Cakewalk UA25EX with my laptop. Both work fine with Sonar X2PE.

You'll probably be fine with either a Focusrite Scarlett (2i4 or 8i6) or a Roland Quad-Capture. They're known to work well with Sonar X1 and X2 and are relatively inexpensive.

Try adding a powered USB hub. (It helped alot when I was running an EMU interface off a laptop). [currently use the MOTU 24IO]

+1 for the Focusrite interfaces. The built in pre amps (for your mic) are brilliant.

Anyone here have any experience with the Presonus interfaces? Those have been in my sights too. I have a friend who swears by them but he also uses FL studio my concern is that I don't want to have any issues with it working with Sonar.

Check out the RME Babyface (a USB2 interface) Recently I had to switch from a RME HDSP 9652 (that I purchased in 2005) to an RME RayDAT. I had to switch because my new motherboard didn't have any old PCI slots. They STILL update their drivers for the HDSP9652 though.. You can always trust RME and that's why I would never buy another brand today. Focusrite is okay too. I wouldn't go with M-Audio though. It's a quite small company and they suck when it comes to drivers.

+1 for Focusrite, too. I run a big one at home and a smaller for mobile recording. If needed, i can run them in dual unit mode (the are both firewire devices - and they run without a problem under thunderbolt- if you are a mac user for certain circumstances....) HTH Michael

The focusrite saffire interfaces have better latency and mic pre´s than the ur 22., but that´s firewire! Pragi

Focusrite Scarlett 18i6. Agreed on M-Audio and their drivers sucking. I have a Fast Track Pro sitting here in it's box. I used it for about 2 months and couldn't take it anymore. I don't even want to sell it and do that to someone else. Mike

I have the Presonus Audiobox 1818 VSL, and it works well with Sonar. I looked up the specs for your Propellerhead Balance, and it seems like they have ASIO drivers for Windows 7 and 8, and it claims in multiple places that it works with any DAW software. If you have that device still, can you please elaborate on the issues you were having with it and Sonar? Perhaps the issues can be resolved, saving you from having to buy an additional interface. Presonus Audiobox 44VSL also works fine with X2. @KevWest: Like you I did not need many inputs but I find it handy to have an extra set of I/O ports for an external loop.

It's entirely dependent on your PC's configuration whether you'll be able to get it to work or not. After some initial difficulty, I have had no problems with mine. You should check the Presonus forums before deciding. Regards, Dan

I have 3 sound cards, but I actively use the MOTU mk3 Hybrid for mixing and a LYNX fro mastering. I also have a MOTU Ultra mk3 Hybrid for a back-up interface. The only card in your price range that I can say without a doubt "works greats in Sonar" is the Motu Ultra mk3 Hybrid. Its aropunf $500 CJ

I have been using the V-Studio 700 but I also have a MOTU 828. They seem to work equally well but both are overkill for what you need. I have several synths plugged in as well as mics, and I sometimes use external effects. Someone who only needs one or two inputs, there are a ton of options.
