What audio interface do you use with Sonar?

I was wondering what interfacce do you use with Sonar 8? Can you give me some feedback about it? What is it your experiences using the interface with Vista 32 or 64 bit? I was thinking about getting the M-Audio fast track pro.

Also, Im looking at investing in Sonar 8 producer edition. Is a desktop with Windows Vista Home Premium, 2.2 ghz processing speed, 3 GB RAM (pre-installed) with a max of 8 GB, and a quad-core processor good enough to run Sonar 8 producer? All I will be using this desktop for is music... No internet or recording vocals. Just basic pre-production. Thanks...

    I'm sure some people will chime in with their advice, but a quick search turns up lots of results on this same topic:

    The Edirol interfaces work well and are a good choice seeing as how Cakewalk bundles the same software in their hardware packages. Each box has good hardware and the drivers work well in XP and Vista (including 64-bit if you need that). I use the FA-66 with my Vista32-based laptop for my portable studio setup...

    * Edirol FA-66 FireWire MIDI/Audio Interface

    * Edirol FA-101 FireWire MIDI/Audio Interface

    * Edirol UA-25 USB MIDI/Audio Interface

    * Edirol UA-101 USB MIDI/Audio Interface

    Best,
    Scott

    I have used a RME DIGI 9652 since shortly after it was introduced. They have subsequently replaced it with the HDSP 9652. There are a lot of Fireface users here. RME makes one of the best products in their price range - IHMO.

    I just got a Allen and Heath ZED R16. So far it is pretty darn sweet. I up graded from an old analog 24 channel console and two firepods. The pres in the ZED are very nice, and the conversion is a lot better than the firepods as well.

    Here is a pic:

    The midi control in sonar is pretty cool too. I'm still setting that up. I'm a ACT noob... :)

    The transport on the board worked right away. Very easy setup.

    And as you can see when looking the old board in my avatar...I just re-gained A LOT of my room back.

    Alan & Heath are based just down the road from me. I used to have a 48 channel A & H, midi automated desk in my old studio almost 20 years ago. They are good. A client spilt a cup of coffee over it once, and some of the knobs and faders stuck. I called A & H asking for advice, and they told me to chuck water all over it - I did and it fixed it and gave me great service for years! Obviously I powered it down, and isolated it first before chucking water over it!!

    I used to use an Edirol FA-66 for years.
    Recently changed it to the FA-101 as I needed more inputs.

    I use the WDM drivers and both have been rock solid.

    Edirol UA1000 (USB 2.0) with ASIO drivers. Because of my underpowered computer I do have to crank the latency up when using a lot of plugs, but it's been good for me.

    I use the Echo Layla 24/96 but alas, the headphone volume pot has gotten dust in it after all these years and there is substantial static when changing the headphone volume.

    I am in the market for a new, pro quality sound card, but sadly I built my new DAW based on a PCI interface for the sound card--so that's what I'm stuck with for at least several years.

    Any suggestions on a good, 24+ bit, 96k sound card with TRS and XLR (or Neutrik (sp?)) I/Os WITH a PCI interface is much appreciated...I'll probably have to buy used--though I don't want to.

    Razor,

    Your statement about possibly having to buy used makes me think you're not aware that Echo still makes PCI-based cards:

    Scott- I also use an Edirol interface (FA-101) and it's rock solid. One minor irritant- you have to power off the interface to switch between sample rates. A royal pain! I record audio in the field at 48k and sometimes my home computer is set at 44.1k.

    The MOTU firewire interfaces ( I have a Traveler) switch automatically and avoid this hassle.

    I suppose I could be better organized, but that would be too much to ask :-).
