Another TASCAM 16x08 here.  Great interface for me.  Doesn't have 16 line inputs though.  Even the 20x20 is split up ... or rather it will be when released.

Focusrite Pro40.  Been a solid piece of my arsenal.
Performs well and sounds good.  Drivers have been solid and updates work without a hitch.
There are other interfaces I drool over, but this one has been consistent (what more can you ask for?)

After many years using an M-Audio Firewire 1814 I recently purchased an Antelope Orion 32 (with the MP32 Mic- Pre's). I cannot say that I have mastered this thing yet, but so far it's been awesome.  Admittedly it's pretty pricey but I am loving the 32 channels of I/O!  No need to worry about linking units to expand I/O with this interface!

Thanks for all the replies, so far! I find it very interesting to see what other folks are using and what works well for them.
Seems like a lot of Focusrite users.
I am kind of surprised there are not a lot of Presonus users. Makes me wonder if there may be issues with Presonus and Sonar or, if they are just not that popular?

Using  a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8, with the extra 8 inputs via ADAT from a Behringer ADA8200.
Lexicon MX300 connected to the Scarlett via S/PDIF.

Had to spend a bit of time with the Scarlett MixControl software to wrap my head around all the routing possibilities -
but everything works great!!

Can't really go wrong with RME or Antelope. The Antelope stuff sounds great (kinda jealous of the previous posters MP32....I use a bunch of discrete pre's...they're nice but can be clunky to use) and the RME stuff is fantastic is well. You'll pay more for them, but it's totally worth it IMHO. Only drawback with the Orion is the limited routing. It only has one "mix" stereo pair output so you can't do multiple headphone mixes or have multiple sources feed a single output pair.

Oh, I use an RME HDSPe MADI fx feeding an Orion 32 and an Lynx Aurora 16.

M-audio Delta 44.  I can't remember when I got this thing, but it is OLD and still works great.  There are no Win10 drivers for it, and probably never will be, and why I'll be staying with Win7, likely until something forces me to do otherwise.

I can chime in with the Tascam 16x08 props.  Nothing but happy with it.  Performs as advertised, and that in itself is saying a lot.

I'm using a Yamaha/Steinberg MR816X with Focusrite OctoPre ADAT'd in. They pair quite well with a 2010 Portugese Red (Confidencial) when using Sonar Platinum. Search "Audio Interface" at Gearslutz. You'll see it pop up over and over. My Sweetwater Rep recommended the MR816X. I'm very happy with it. While I like the pres in the OctoPre, I like the pres in the Steinberg more. (More perceived weight/mass) The MR816's headphone amps were a pleasant surprise.

There is an issue with W10 driver. I'm sticking with W7 waiting for the update. Since it is such a popular model; they're sure to release a W10 driver soon.

Rod
I actually also have an old Presonus Firepod and I mean quite old (perhaps 10 years now) Still working fine on one of my older systems - went Focusrite when I put a new system in my studio in Cape Town a number of years back, and there was no Presonus dealer in South Africa at that time. I liked the Focusrite so much I then decided to stay with them when I upgraded here.
No issue from Presonus for me, just very happy with Focusrite

I'm using a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 with a cheap Behringer ADA8200 to give me another 8 channels with ADAT.  I picked up the 18i20 on sale for $400 and the ADA8200 was only $200.  The Focusrite works great and is really flexible.  The Behringer actually works pretty well considering how cheap it is.  $600 for 16 channels with both units is hard to beat.

I sold my two FF800s to get an RME UFX.not question about the quality of sound and super low latency.

I had a Presonus Studiolive 2442 but sold it and recently purchased a Presonus RM16AI. For the price I can't believe what's been packed into this unit and it sounds great too. I'm interested in exploring the cohesion between the Presonus hardware and software.

All on Win 10.

In my view, if you'd like to buy only one interface in your lifetime (maybe a stretch but that's almost true) aim for an RME.

They use a field programmable chip that allow them to reconfigure the whole firmware of any interface they ever produced (with the exception of the very early ones that don't feature hammerfall).

So do yourself a favor and aim for RME. Any of them.  If you can save for their latest models all the better (recent converter/clock technology).

Can be expensive at first but if your serious about recording and prioritize stability you'll never look back and will keep it for at least 10 years. You'll even forget it's there ;)

Re: What audio interfaces are everyone using with Platinum? 2015/09/16 10:39:04 (permalink)
I use two - a TC Konnek 48.  With the new FW drivers latency is below 5 ms.  I also use a TASCAM UH-7000 both connected to the 48 via Spdif/AES or just use it over USB if latency isn't an issue (10ms) or don't need the extra inputs.

@
PS - I had Presonus (Firestation in the dark ages and a FirePod later) and have nothing but good things to say about the hardware and company.  The TC was a step up in sound quality (esp. the preamps in those older units) and the TASCAM another step up.  But bang for buck, it is hard to beat the Pod or whatever they are calling it now.  If you don't need the extra inputs, most of the stereo hardware will allow you to do good work.

Just one Roland Octacapture is perfect for me because it's small, it's dependable, it's straightforward, and because I never need more than the number of inputs it offers.

I like it very much.
