What bugs have been fixed?

Just reading through the BandLab Cakewalk announcement FAQ and read that there have been bug fixes in the new release, just curious as to what those bug fixes are please?

Quoted from the Announcement FAQ
"Have existing bugs in SONAR Platinum been fixed in Cakewalk by BandLab?
Yes. We’re picking up right where SONAR Platinum left off, and have made bug fixes for our initial release of Cakewalk by BandLab."

In Sonar Platinum, I have a 39 minute 16 Track MIDI project that is heavy in Sysex information.

When I set the MIDI "Prepare using" to 500 ms, the project crashes Sonar Platinum while playing past the 10 second mark. At the point in the project, it comes across a sysex bank pointing to 89 bytes of sysex data.

If I set the "Prepare using" to 290 ms or less, the crash does not occur in Sonar Platinum.

Note: The sysex needs to be there as it sets up requires parameters for the external synth, so removing the bank is not an option. It would not sound as intended.

Now, I load the same project into Cakewalk by Bandlab, set its MIDI "Prepare using" to 500 ms, the project gets past this 10 second point where the sysex bank is without crashing.

Either I'm imagining this or the Bandlab team did actually fix something.

Even if you don't see a visible GUI change, there are likely bug fixes under the bonnet that makes things run a little smoother.

I heard they were trying to do it to those mosquitoes that carry the Zika virus.  Other than that, I don't know of any specific bugs that have been fixed.

Kind regards,

Hey promidi . . . can you confirm your project is a "pure" midi situation . . . eg. no extra plugins involved ?
If so, this is a good omen for things to come . . . but, I'm wondering if the "improvements" are just a result of the removal of some various plugins from the core product ?  I've had my midi playback buffers between 500 and 750 msec with good results for the last few years on most projects.

Cakewalk by Bandlab, Cubase, RME Babyface Pro, Intel i7 3770K @3.5Ghz, Asus P8Z77-VPro/Thunderbolt, 32GB DDR3 RAM, GeForce GTX 660 Ti, 250 GB OS SSD, 2TB HDD samples, Win 10 Pro 64 bit, backed up by Macrium Reflect, Novation Impulse 61 Midi Key Controller, Tannoy Active Near Field Monitors, Guitars by Vantage, Gibson, Yamaki and Ovation.

I can confirm that this is a MIDI only project.  Definitely no VST instruments at all.  The destination synth is a Yamaha SW1000XG sound card (basically a Yamaha MU100 on a card) installed in a second PC set up to receive MIDI in.  This is connected via a Roland USB to 5pin MIDI converter.

I can also confirm that is was the sysex banks that caused the crash.  I even tried various edits of the TTseq.ini file to do with the way that sysex in handled.  No difference.....  I ended just giving up and just set the midi playback "prepare using" to
290 ms as a work a round.

Sonar platinum crashed this track at around 10 seconds regardless of what I set the output of the MIDI tracks to....  even when it was set to none.

File plays the MIDI project flawlessly in Cakewalk by Bandlab.

Note: My Cakewalk by Bandlab VST plugin configuration is the same as my Sonar Platinum VST plugin configuration.

That is a pretty subtle bug fix, promidi.  How in the world did they figure out they needed to fix it and how did you even discover it?  But glad it works for you.

I have by no means stress tested CbB what so ever, but I had a play around with it on my iMac with Windows under Bootcamp and it ran noticably better in that setting. My latest Splat install is not the latest - I don't remember which version it is - but it was more sluggish and would hang comepletely or freeze for a few seconds here and there. CbB never did even with the same project open. I'm guessing, but it seems like they have streamlined some code or something and I got that "it just works"-feeling. Like I said, not a thorough testing, it was just to get a feel for it. And I was pleasantly surprised!

This was some audio files and a few VSTi's and a heap of effects. I really miss Pro Channel!

Now hoping for a proper Mac version ;)

I wonder if this is what's causing my issues with old projects crashing SPLAT and CbB. All of them have sysex banks with auto-send enabled, and every one of them is crashing on loading the project on my laptop. On my studio PC however, it only crashes on some of the projects.

Hopefully changing the prepare-using will fix this - thanks promidi!

Yeah...

Something i miss from the old updates.

Hopefully it will change as the new paradigm evolves.

We used to get a list of bug fixes with each update...

The only bug I ever had seems to be fixed. No more random crashes during exit and save and heavy midi editing.
At least I've gone past the point were in the past I would have had at least one crash. Who knows why those crashes happened but my solution was to save and save and save as I worked. I have now stopped doing that. I still save a lot but with splat I would do it every 3- 5 minutes or a crash would be pending.
