GD? I've been over there a few times. Fort Worth has really gotten nice since back in the days I lived in D. Back then, Billy Bob's was the main attraction. For those of you who don't know, Billy Bob's is a honkey tonk with about 10 billion square feet of covered space. Used to have a rodeo in there.

Some people call me Maurice

yep - actually it's Lockheed Martin now - GD sold it to LM about hmm...15 years ago? and yeah billy bob's is still a big attraction and still brings some decent names in sometimes (even some non-country acts!).

Well, you boys are welcome to come over to my place anytime for a visit. My cell number is on my website in my sig.

My studio is directly across the street from the old Baker Hotel in downtown Mineral Wells. My building was built around 1890-95. Lot's of vibe and the occasional bat!

I spent most of my life as a working musician (pedal steel for 27 years, then mandolin for the next 7 years) and now own a small (1875 sq. ft.) commercial recording facility in Mineral Wells, TX.

I keep several instruments around if clients need tracks for projects but that is the only playing I do anymore.

I have recorded, edited, mixed and mastered 12 full client CD projects in the last 16 months. And on all of them except one, I did the artwork as well.

So this is definitely not a hobby for me.

You're just an hour from me! I'd love to have a tour of your studio some time!

for me it's a hobby but it may be more some day. I don't have any plans to quit my day job as an Electrical Engineer working on state of the art fighter jets!

You guys are both about 4 hours from me. I was up in Glen Rose 2 weeks ago quail, chuckar and pheasant hunting.

Accountant by day, family man by night, hobby musician in between.
My job as a controller pays the bills and helps buy goodies, software and such for making music.
Home life and family (1 wife, 4 children, 3 1/2 grandchildren, 2 cats, 1 bird, 0 dogs at present) are often my source of inspiration for lyrics and musical creativity.
My hobbies are theatre, music, and the Sonar song forum, which often cross paths.

Aside from being a husband and father (19-month old son), I'm a Fisheries Biologist/Water Quality Specialist for a consulting firm specializing in water and power resources by day and a musician/composer/producer by night. My first degree was a BA in Music Theory/Composition, but went back to get BS and MS in Fisheries/Aquatic Toxicology. Music is one of my four favorite past times, the other three being photography (mostly landscapes and wildlife), flyfishing, and skiing.

Oh yeah, I also collect hot sauces (not kidding, ask my wife).

I have no delusions any more of being PRO...............that's long gone.....but I still love music with all my heart.....thats all I think about.....However...now I work a 9 to 5 to afford my Habit!!!!

I own a three bedroom house that now only has two!!!! LOL.........
early last year I was off a work for two months recovering from being ill and decided the time was now or never to build a music room and now I have what I consider a project studio.......spent CASH!!! ok really plastic (bcause I'll be paying for it for a long long time)but I got what i wanted and now I enjoy spending a LOT of time in my little room..(10 ' x 10' plus closet for making home made wine!!!)...........put a hardwood floor in, ....some room treatment....a couple of rack gear units, new monitors and computer and desk....(some day I may even get the chance to psot a pic of it)....I have NO desire what so ever to have anyone over to "RECORD".......it's everything I can do to find time for myself........I would like to eventually be so skilled that I will be able to do old classic rock, new synth type material and orchestral music.........a lot of you guys (and Gals) help me so much that I will never be able to say thank you enough......I really admire the level of talent here.....I alos need to thank everyone who have allowed my the oppurtunity to download your music and load it up on my MP3 player........My MP3 player has very very little comercial music on it.......nowadays I just love listening to all the great music being produced on this board.........it gives me a lot of insperation!!! Thank you

Cliff

Definitely a personal hobby-interest-addiction for me. One I've not had the proper time to pay attention to lately due to work and time needed. Being a Poet-songwriter-amatuer musician and recording enthusiast, I have found Cakewalk and Sonar to be the solution to many obstacles in my study of the whole process of music. It's my favorite toy!

Here's something I've always wondered about a lot of people around here that now seems appropriate to discuss now the coffeehouse is back (it was already gone already I think by the time I showed up...)

In what capacity do you do music / recording now? In other words, it is a hobby, do you have your own project studio, etc? What are your goals related to music / recording? (if something other than what you're currently doing...)

Small-town pastor who worked his way through college gigging, and worked radio for about 12 years during that time. Came to the realization that live play is fun... but I have no desire to be a full-time touring musician... I enjoy being at home with my wife and children far too much to be gone that much.

Music and recording a hobby that crosses over into "sort of semi-pro" in that I do things in support of my congregation's music ministry - recordings, music arranging, etc. But by and large, it's a spiritual discipline and emotional maintenance tool that helps me stay sane in a crazy world. I have a small computer-based studio in my home. If anything, I'm a writer that records occasionally... a lot of what I do is help other people with their projects. Mostly a guitarist now, played bass for a number of years long ago.

One day, I'll finish up the two or three partially-done albums I have laying around. But right now the kids are 5, 5, and 7 -- my attention is needed on them.

Peace,

Russ
