What do you think about this production?

Any feedback would be great on the second song - Netti and Siri / Full Band

Would anyone that you know buy a song like this one? Vocals and left speaker acoustic guitar recorded in Norway. The rest was recorded here in my little North Carolina bedroom / studio.

it sounds pretty good.  My personal preference would be for a more defined, and heavier bass. It seems to be lacking the bottom and the punch that this deserves.

All the rest sounds really nice.

I did a little mastering to it and rolled the bass off at 35. Before it was around 50. Maybe this is a little better?

I'll listen later on my lappy with buds.... the speakers on this computer are not very good.

I normally roll off a bit lower... 25 to 30 pretty steeply but there might be a bump in the bass above that...and very often it is through my multiband EQ and compressor as opposed to using the faders in the tracks.

A multiband, properly set up will give a nice punch and fatness to the bottom of the spectrum without getting muddy.

I will come back later and listen...

Nice song, cool tonal character to her voice even though a little heavy on the tuning. Love the chord progression under the acoustic solo, I'm might would have used that as a vocal bridge. There is some timing sloppiness between the strummed acoustic and hihats or the ride in a few areas. Overall pretty good.

Very few people I know buy any music at all sadly.

Listening on my buds.... nice, She can sing. I still would like a heavier bass, but the one you have in is is probably genre appropriate, I like this song.

    Sweet acoustic.

What town are you from in NC?

    Good job.

This is good, vocal is really in the mix. Vocals and instruments are good. Modern sounding song, I am sure people would want to buy it. Harmony on chorus is nice. Good solo guitar. Great job!

Thanks Everyone for your nice comments!

On the acoustic guitars, the left guitar is panned 70 left, has more bass eq than right guitar, has some compression, and using hall reverb on a buss that all tracks are being sent to for their reverb.

The right guitar is panned 70, is using a thinner eq rolled off at 249 for more sparkle, it is moved 128th forward in time, has a plugin called Waves Doubler 4, compression, and hall reverb. It was recorded without a microphone, just using the guitars Martin Thinline pickup. That's about it.

On mixdown, I just used the same Hall reverb for all tracks with the same settings except for the lead guitar. It has a little more reverb. Mastering, I used a Linear eq bass cutoff at 40 with a 7k bump, T-Racks vintage compressor, and a brick wall limiter set at 1.7 so it would barely give it some boost. I think the final RMS is around 12.

High quality performances and mix.  A great tune with a nice chorus hook.  Fun stuff and executed so well.  Love the acoustic guitar (the lead might be a tad loud in the mix).  Not the kind of tune I would normally buy but if this was my genre, I'd buy this one, sounds great.  Nice work!

It sounds very good.  She's ear candy, lovely voice without going overboard like everyone else.  I like the lyrics and the simplicity of the arrangement (i prefer the band mix over acoustic).

I really like the singing, the melodies, the guitar riffs, the overall vibe of the song! I'm not blown away by the production/recording though; I think the drums and guitar could be bigger and stronger, particularly in the chorus. It sounds like it could be mastered a bit more as well (that could also give the drums more punching power). Guitar could be performed a bit better in some places, in verse2 I noticed a few spots it was off. I think the rhythm guitar could use some compression as well. Hope all this helps! -Jeff

The track seems to be left side dominant.  Otherwise, this is an excellent track.  She can really sing.  The band is top notch!  Excellent song writing.

Nice tune and production.  The left side is a little strong on my rig too.  Sounded a little bit squeezed to me when the band kicked in...just a hair dark...but that may be the encoding.  I wasn't happy with my last upload to soundcloud relative to the wav file.

I clicked your link and got 3 songs. So, I don't know what song you're talking about. I started listening to the first one, but the widening effect on the vocal made me stop. Sorry, it just really bothered me. I'm pretty sure I would like the song and style if it was more listenable without weird artifacts.

    Hum?

I uploaded it again. I don't hear a widening effect but I do hear a warble, like an old echoplex tape machine. I guess that's what you are talking about. The wav file sounds pretty good. Soundclick and Soundcloud both sound pretty bad.

Ok can I suggest you make it a little more easy to find the track we are suppose to be listening to.  I hope it's the first track.

Ok pretty generic sort of stuff, sorry not my cup of tea.  The mix is good you have the chops, I suggest for the master use a steeped EQ (this may not be the correct term) I will explain it as best as I can, using the Sonitus EQ set up 4 hi-pass filters and set them all at 40hz, then using your ear set the Q, I normally have all four a different strengths eg: 1 at 2.0, 2 at 1.5 ect ect.  What this does is allow you to create and control the hi-pass curve, so that means it can have a bump at 100 if that is what you want.  If you don't understand the concept ask me again.

Another thing I don't think it is the bottom end that is your problem, try taking out a couple of DB at the 400hz mark this will get rid of the mud.

Another thing to do is find the dominent upper harmonic of the track mostly around that 3.5Khz to 6Khz mark, this will help the track sparkle a little more.

    Peace Ben

    Thanks!

I tried to get the mud out and increase the highs. Sometimes it is hit and miss. Some people say that it sounds okay and then some say that it sounds really bad. I always compare the song to about 5 hit commercial songs from the 70's - 2011 using WaveLab while watching my spectrum analyzer. I try to get it to match those songs.

Sometimes my ears tell me one thing and the spectrum analyzer tells me something else. If I go by my ears alone, everyone always tells me that I need more high end.

My last upload on Soundcloud has that same grainy low end warble that I hear on yours...not sure what's up with that, but I didn't notice it at Ourstage.  I may try to put my last tune up on my soundclick for comparison.
