What feature SOLD you on X2?
For my type of recording I can see Take Lanes being my biggest want/need for ease of catching a perfect performance in different more complex sections of a song. X1 will do it by setting Loop Points with Punch In points but then you have the hassle of unhiding and finding the take you want to work with.

Auto zoom. I asked for it for a long time and when they put it in I was surprised to say the lest. I felt obligated to upgrade. When you ask for a feature and they give it to you it seems only right to except it.

X1: SD3 (specifically the SD3 Master class Seth put together) and this forum. X2: R-Mix, Lanes and the $99 upgrade price. Just want a new patch that works and I'll be happy as a Beep in bloop.

mike_mccue Take lanes pretty much sealed the deal for me. Me too, Mike, glad you have finally come on board. Unless, of course, you are trolling, but I'm sure you're not. I'll take you at your word. Are you loving the other benefits too? I also like the auto zoom, the time ruler zoom, automation lanes, console emulation, ProChannel effects chains and Breverb. There are probably more.. When Cake first talked about X2, I wasn't that excited, but it was seeing it in action on the Webinar that won me over.

I hopped on board for the take lanes - but the automation lanes (which I haven't liked particulary much in other DAWs) made me stay Actually, besides that, the console emu, FX Chain module, black clip background and general workflow and stability enhancements was what impressed me. Auto zoom is pretty cool but I'm not sure if it irritates me a little as well.

I think the bulk of us like the lanes but aren't drooling over them because they need some tweaking. However the dudes that hate them seem to reeeeaally hate them giving the impression they're a flop with the user base. I really hope that doesn't make Cake do something rash like take them away. Layers were awful for how I work.

For me, it was Take Lanes and A-Type Console Emulation. Ironically, I don't like the Take Lanes because of all of the idiosyncrasies, and I ended up returning to the Waves NLS. Case in point, the Mike Hedges channel 2 on a snare drum with 50% Drive is pretty darn good and brings out the 'pop'!! I still use Take Lanes, but would be fine with Layers in X1. Console emulation is great if you don't have NLS.

Jlien X I hate take lanes. Another reason for my upgrading to X2 was........stability. I can say that after watching the hour+ webcast Cakewalk did for X2 I was hoping for better stability and better GUI response. I think there were 'some' improvements, but that quickly diminished once I uncovered some bugs in the first 15 minutes of X2 use. I immediately had a bad taste in my mouth. X2a fixed a few of those issues, but others still remain. I would like to see X2 be stripped of a lot of features I don't use in trade for stability; I mean, letting ME un-install certain features I don't use so I can gain better performance. I think some stability issues were resolved, but new ones were introduced. So, whether I work in X1d or X2a, no longer makes any difference to me, unfortunately.

Feature-wise I certainly like what I see in X2, but I'm not ready to upgrade from X1d Expanded until the general consensus on the forum is that X2 is more stable (via hotfix of X2b). I would hate to be one of the folks struggling with X2 issues. I sure hope we see X2b or a hotfix before Jan 31st (end of NAMM Special), otherwise, my investment would be a leap of faith. BTW: Is it pretty well documented that X2a's core functionality operates the same on W7 64bit versus W8 64bit?

For the upgrade price, how could you resist. An amp sim, a great reverb and R-Mix plus all the refinements for $99. What I'm enjoying the most actually came with the X2a update. TOUCH SUPPORT I Feel like Tom Cruise from Minority report when I mix now!

Probablly for due to the nature of most people are of the home studio/band kinda thing most will likely not venture into it until they want to come off the money just to try it out. Im seeing allot more of it in use in the bigger production type work. You will see it like on American Idol, the Voice, etc... with everything brought up and they just kick back and hit the screen when it time to cue a track for singers. Id imagine it will catch on fast in the smaller world when people can afford the larger mixers and interfaces and start using them LIVE when playing out. I can see a NICETY in it just walking around large venues carrying an iPad and making adjustments on the fly.
