I have a fear that the child of a P5-Sonar union would end up being some unwieldy colossus...that would be overly complex and unwieldy to use.

I view Sonar as already being that type of app

So at this point, I guess my opinion is, what's the big deal with bolting on a few more features? Let's face it, they've been "gold plating" the app for a number of years. But so does Microsoft and so does Adobe, so they're just following the trend.

Maybe the next trend will be some lean, mean, easy-to-use sequencer which feeds into Sonar. Isn't that what "Sequel" is to Cubase? That would be interesting - an app which is totally designed around super-streamlined loading and operation, albeit with a very limited feature set - targeted at users who want to get ideas down when inspiration strikes. Project5 is supposed to be that, but without the total Sonar integration we've been talking about, it's at the same time an isolated solution.

Noooo. I hate deciding my colors. Thats how sonar does it. I wish sonar decided for me.

That would be nice. It'd be one way of defining formatic sections. (Verse in shades of red and pink, chorus in shades of blue and green, bridge in yellow, intro/outro in orange... stuff like that)

I like Sonar's flexible color schemes and think P5 would benefit greatly from it.

ORIGINAL: b rock

ONE FEATURE NO OTHER DAW or "Live" TOOL has.
Per-track MIDI LFO in the Track Inspector.
- generates selectable waveforms, with 2 user-defined slots for loading waveshapes.
- submixer for grouping / blending multiple MIDI LFO waveshapes together.
- routes to track automation, the arpeggiator, synth, effects, or to MIDI out.
- tempo sync / frequency switch.
- latch / unlatch switch.
- count parameter from 1 -16; infinite.

This idea is so mind-boggling brilliant I can't believe no one has called it out.

RE: Flatten Every Other Performance-oriented Sequencing Application

Sirs,
Please read user b rock's "Per-track MIDI LFO" suggestions.

Read it again.

Something like this would turn P5 into a modular beast that would open up the application in ways most users hadn't even imagined. I certainly hadn't.

Thank you for your time.

Anyway, I agree with all the oft-repeted requests here.

Thanks for sharing the vision, Puffer. As for a little history: I did push this through as a request a few years back. Additionally, I had a telephone conversation with Jesse Jost about 18 months ago, and we discussed this at some length. He was pretty pumped up about the idea, but (unfortunately) left to work for Line6 shortly afterwards. At least the concept has been archived somewhere.

I'm adding to my list.

Cyclone improvements

*Slice preview. You click on a slice in the editor and it plays the slice.
*More sonic manipulation options in the slice inspector (beyond pitch, pan, gain). How about reverse, attack, decay?
*Make pads touch sensitive (respond to midi velocity)

Cyclone is a hidden gem imo.

But it costs money of course.

1.) Dual core once again. It's a must have.
2.) Better implementation of multi-out VSTi's--so you don't have to adjust levels for the outputs one at a time, switching the focus of the track every time. Kind of discourages one from even bothering w/ multi-out's.
3.) I would like the ability to double-click on a pattern in the arranger and have it open up in the editor. Unless I missed something, it's kind of annoying having to pick your pattern out of the drop down menu to get it up in the editor.
4.) In the piano roll, if you select multiple notes, and then try to drag them out longer/shorter, it will only drag one. Definitely have to get that fixed. What if you want to stretch out a whole chord?

Otherwise, I'm pretty happy so far. Pretty much everything that's great about Ableton Live without all the stupidity (i.e. Live still doesn't have groove quantize). Thanks, Cakewalk.

With P5 available for the Sonar 7 users for $49 for the next few days, maybe there will be a ground swell of integration sentiment from the other side of the tracks.

It does that. Just double click the pattern. It should open up the current pattern in the editor. But I have the editor always open. If you mean like Ableton Live as in the editor pops up.

4.) In the piano roll, if you select multiple notes, and then try to drag them out longer/shorter, it will only drag one. Definitely have to get that fixed. What if you want to stretch out a whole chord?

Wow, may bad. You're right about the double-clicking. My double-clicking skills have gone down the drain lately... One more thing to like about P5.

The length command is definitely one way of doing it, and I thank you for the tip, but I still think dragging out multiple notes simultaneously would be really helpful. One less command dialog to deal with. Good to know the option is there, though. Thanks for the info. I am still learning P5.

Yea length does get annoying sometimes. It would be nice. I was like you when I first started using project 5 though. I felt I wouldn't be able to live without dragging groups of notes. But now, it doesn't even matter anymore. Just like I was when I wanted to set all velocitys to one value. I was so used to using a pencil tool and dragging a line to set them all to zero(in Reason 3.0). Now I'd rather just use the command.

A couple more things we could use:

1.) Audition with groove quantize. Right now, it's a pretty big game of trial and error.

This is kind of a dream, but I would like to see a better drum sampler. Perhaps some kind of sampler/synth based on the Expression Engine, integrated really tightly within P5. The sky is the limit. Cakewalk could include a light version with the sequencers, and offer a discounted price to the full version.
