What goes on in your head

Yesterday I was reading a biography of Thomas Edison. Last night I watched a show about what goes on in your brain when you're not thinking about anything in particular. A lot, apparently. I know I often wake up with a song lyric mysteriously implanted there.

Sure enough, when I opened my eyes this morning my very first thought was a profound one. Here it is:

Necessity may be the mother of invention, but laziness is its favorite uncle.

I find that I am most creative when I have cleared most everything from my head.

Then new ideas can be recognized.

    At least for me.

Heh, I watched a bio about Tesla last week and the same show that you mention above with Alan Alda in it last night (The Human Spark) - both were very good.

I find it hard to clear my mind and not think about anything. I usually need to purposefully think about something in order to get an idea, although sometimes I have awakened from a semi-dream state to have all of these wonderful ideas that seem to disappear as soon as I get fully awake. Very occasionally one of those ideas might stick.

Did anyone watch the NATGEO speacials on drugs? In the one on LSD,scientific studies were done and seemingly proved that LSD takes away our inner leanings toward thinking in a conformed way. This frees up the thought process to go places where it might not have gone before..I'll never try it to find out, but still an interesting take. Maybe dreaming lets us explore places that we would think idiotic in the waking realm......just sayin' If we can remember these thoughts we might have something!

     Great Quote and painfully true.

The minute I stop thinking about anything in particular - like when I close my eyes to try to go to sleep - i see the equivalent of someone shuffling a deck of flash cards on 1000 subjects.  It takes me a very long time to quiet down my head once I stop focusing on anything in particular.

I've got a LOT of experience in some pretty bizarre areas (besides Coffee House) Starise.  One of those areas is called Lucid Dreaming.   There's a couple of really good books on the subject by Stephen LaBerge.  You'll be amazed at what's possible while you're dreaming!

I even have a couple of devices that you wear that will signal when you've entered into REM sleep to help you learn how to become lucid in your dreams.  Just some of the cool experimental toys I've got around here - heh...

I have ludicrous dreams all the time.

I don't need no devices for that.

If I let my mind go blank, massive depression sets in. I constantly have to keep my mind occupied with music, internet, movies, PS3, chores outside, until I'm so tired I can't hold my head up anymore then I crash and I always have this feeling like I should be doing something but I don't know what. I have severe sleep apnea (>100 EPH) and I think that has something to do with it. I rarely get in to an REM sleep.

Someone just shoot me and get it over with please. I'm gettin' pretty tired. LOL!

I don't know. My own experiences with LSD usually involved luring some similarly-enlighted young lady into the sack. IOW, pretty much the same thing that motivated me under normal circumstances back then.

I will, however, admit to inexplicably enjoying Black Sabbath while under the influence of LSD, so there's at least some evidence of having gone places not visited since.

I dunno if I believe that. I took 5 hits of acid at once on a dare and look at me, I'm perfectly normal.
