What happened to the good old Cakewalk Pitch Shifter Plugin?
I noticed that X3 doesn't have this included as part of the Cakewalk Direct X plugins. Not sure if it was included in X1 or 2 but does anyone know why it was excluded? Is there a compatibility issue with X3? The beauty of this baby is that you can transpose a track by amounts other than half steps. Is there another way perhaps to do this? Appreciate any advice or comments, cheers.

I don't know about X3 but it's in X2. Remember that it's a distructive effect so you can't put it in the effects bin. To apply it, right-click on the audio clip, then select: Process Effect > Audio Effects > Cakewalk > Time/Pitch Stretch 2

The plug-in was ported to 64bit and included through X2. For years the 32bit FX1,2 and 3 plug-ins were available for free from the Cakewalk store, they have been withdrawn there too. Although, with a little digging, I did manage to find a link to the FX3 reverb. Aside from the Roland licensing issue with R-Mix and V-Vocal, the only explanation I have read for dropping some plug-ins from X3 was stability issues.

@Kev999 - I used to use it in the effects bin all the time, without issue. Having said that I know that you could apply it as a clip effect also, as per what you're saying. Also I think the Time/Pitch Stretch 2 plug is a different beast to the Pitch Shifter @Scook - i figured it might be some compatibility/stability issue also. Having said that I found it on my set of Sonar 8 disks and re-installed it - seems to work ok so far!

Yeah its missing from X3 though John, and was wondering why they excluded it ie compatibility?? And if so, is there another way to pitch shift clips between steps.

It appears that you are right. I see it listed in the X2 manual but not in the X3 manual.

I guess so, but I don't remember another pitch shifter apart from this and the transpose tool.

FWIW, the Time/Pitch Stretch 2 plugin was the one based on MPEX. I used the **** out of that plugin in the past.

Load up your Sonar 7 disk and start installing it, but select customized install. From there you will be able to un-check the program files and other plugins and just install the one(s) you want.

I still use this plugin. I apply it to instruments, including guitar, moving up 12 steps three times to get some way interesting "harmonics." And I use it on "purc" sounds to add three layers lower. I most always have to adjust the wav files. They seem to be added with a slight delay. Sometimes this works fine. But I have found TRANSPOSE to be more accurate. It uses the Radius functions. And can take much longer. I use this when the sound needs to be clear without effects. Elastique in reaper is good. I use a few common folders for all the plugins I use. These folders are on the samples disk, not the OS/sonar install disk. I have copied the most current versions from the buried sonar install folders to these folders. This means I will not lose anything when I have moved to newer computers. I also use my folders for presets, and cal files,.... I attempt to NEVER use the default buried and hidden folders for anything needing backup, if possible. I wish the CW dudes understood nothing a user needs to backup should be placed in buried and hidden folders. I try to always install sonar to a c:\sonar folder (8, x, x2, x3). Most 3rd party audio programs are placed in c:\audioprograms not the programs folders. More user control, less wasted time.

Dead right. Files and folders that need to be kept intact when you upgrade or transfer to a new platform should not be mixed in with the ephemeral stuff.

I use this plugin for learning songs. I play in a lot of tribute bands and we are constantly learning new tunes. Often, the files (mp3's etc) that I get to learn from are in-between keys (been copied from vinyl or just out for whatever reason.) Rather than re-tune the bass, I just throw the Pitch Shifter on the track and adjust the slider accordingly. Quick and easy. Having said that, I received a "General Error" message last night when I closed down a project with 3 tracks of Pitch Shifter on it (using X3.) My first error message of any kind. Wondering if there is some incompatibility which is why they left it out of X3.

I inserted the 7PE disc in my 7PE PC to run thru the install process before I put it into my X3 PC. It had "Pitch" and "Time Pitch 2" or whatever the "other" pitch plugin was. But, When I installed the plugins of choice on the X3 PC the "Time Pitch 2" was not available. Thanks Millzy

Default installs do not always place the stuff in the same folders. Prolly will have to add the folder to the plugin manager. I use a set of folders on the samples disk to store ALL the plugins I use. I move the latest versiosn there after a default install if the plugs do not get there during.

I used my Sonar 7PE disc and performed a customized install of the pitch plugin and a couple other plugins. The pitch is not working properly...makes everything sound like crap. The other plugins don't work at all. I get no audio unless I hit the power button on the graphical interface of the plugin. Sorry, maybe it is not right, as the plugin checker at startup does not recognize the count change.
