What is Streaming (M-Audio Fast Track Pro)

What is "Streaming"

I have Cakewalk Sonar Platinum hooked up with an M-Audio Fast Track Pro (FTP). My Condenser Microphone (with 48Vdc phantom power from the FTP) is inserted into the left hand port. When I set up the devices (ASIO Settings) in Sonar an image of the FTP comes up along with textual messages (connected, and Streaming). "Streaming"  ... I have no idea what the heck that is. Can someone help me?  I am unable to create a vocal audio track with any useful volume and I think it is becasue the M-Audio FTP is set to Streaming.

as far as I know streaming is what the Fast Track Pro is supposed to be doing.
its what all audio interfaces do. its a method of transmitting or receiving data allowing playback to proceed while subsequent data is being received.
you shouldn't be constantly seeing this message, only when you start the FTP/open sonar perhaps.

is your phantom power on ?
have you tried the input with a line jack ?

The FTP preamps are really weak. Are you getting nothing at all or just very little unless you crank it?

I tossed mine out a long time ago, as interfaces go it was a dog. Always dropping out, tracks always out of sync etc.
I never saw that message, that weird.
And one of the other issues with the FTP was it had very weak Phantom power.
You defiantly need to use a power supply and not the buss power when using 48V.

+1, I have never used a FTP, but the power source to the unit would be the first thing to check. There have been a number of posts about various units that running phantom power from USB bus power is prone to issues. Some condensers are forgiving to phantom power fluctuations, but others are most definitely not.

I don't want to dog your interface but its just that (a dog).
ive never liked the FTP even when they were new.
