What is grooveplayer.dll? What does it do?

What is grooveplayer.dll? What does it do? How is it related to the metronome.

There is another discussion going on about it here at the forum... but I have a simple question. What is it?

I'm inferring that it somehow injects a "groove" to the tempo map and the metronome playback... even if the tempo map view appears to be a straight tempo. But I could be absolutely wrong about that. I'm just guessing.

Any ideas?

thanks,
mike

Do you have Project5 installed on your PC? GroovePlayer is soft synth that was included with Project5 and used to play Groove Clips (ACIDized WAV files).

    Check your C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared DXi\Groove Player
folder on your hard drive. There's a help file in there.

Nope.. No P5... that explains it.

Thank you for the easy to grasp explanation.

grooveplayer.dll is the GroovePlayer synth (not to be confused with the Roland Groove Synth), originally part of Project 5 but now included in SONAR. Its function is to convert groove clips to audio, interpreting the ACID timing information and delaying or advancing slices to match the project tempo. That's about all I know about it.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Someone told me it affects the metronome. How? I don't know..... but when the metronome disappears the grooveplayer goes funny with it - every time. Regardless of the connection or lack of it that's what happens to some, certainly in older versions of Sonar.

I think that it's only real function in SONAR is to render the audio metronome.  (I'm surmising that it uses the .wav files found in C:\Documents and Settings\<userid>\Application Data\Cakewalk\SONAR <version> <whatever edition>\Metronome.)  There is a .chm file that implicates Project 5, but I think that's just a herring.  I don't think you can even intentionally instantiate GroovePlayer as a soft synth in SONAR...but...if you have the audio metronome enabled on a project and try to load it without the grooveplayer.dll being there, you'll get an error.
