If you had said "stain gaging" I would have said it was an anagram like "as in tagging" but I'm not sure about stain gauging.
Back in the 80’s we would use the word stain as a derogatory term (e.g., that dude is a stain or don’t be such a stain). If it was the 1980’s … a stain gauge would be a devise that determines the stain-y-ness of an individual.

Stain Gauge - Device used to determin when its time to pass on* the CHB 146x146 pixel undershreddies.
*Pass on - i. End your possesion and give to the next person in line.
ii. Refuse to accept and give directly to the next person in line.
Ex. "my stain gauge tells me it's time to pass on the CHB 146x146 pixel undershreddies."
