Hi Gregh1957. Welcome to the forum! Your assumptions are correct with rolling updates. After 12 continuous months you 'own' Sonar up to that point. If you then choose to discontinue your membership Sonar will still function but you will not recieve updates. If at a later point you choose to re-subscribe you will receive the latest version of sonar and your updates continue from that point. After a further 12 months you again 'own' whatever the latest version is when you stop subscribing. If in your second membership you discontinue prior to completing 12 consecutive months, Sonar will revert to the last version of your first subscription.

I could be wrong but I thought I read not so long ago from one of the staff members that LTU was all they were offering at the moment.

excellent, thanks tenfoot. I think it might be even better value to buy Professional outright and then use the rolling update subscription every couple of years rather than start with the monthly subscription.

Gregh1957 resurrecting this - I don't completely understand the rolling updates feature. I am thinking of moving to Sonar and Platinum might be a bit expensive at the moment for me. In which case I will get Professional and miss out on the lifetime updates. Will rolling updates allow me to miss years, just like in the past one might miss a version and only update every couple of years? eg I buy Professional and update for 12 months. I am happy with where Sonar is at so cancel updates until a year or two goes by and start thinking the improvements have been great enough for me to want the current version. So I start rolling updates again for a year - do I get the (new for me) current version plus a years updates or do I get a years updates from the time a year or two ago when I discontinued my subscription to the update method? thanks
I don't know what Cakewalk has planned for the future, except I do know that the window for Lifetime Updates closes on December 31. They've told me there is zero chance it will be extended again like it was on September 1, no matter how many people complain. I think they feel there has been more than enough opportunity for people to take advantage of LTU.

all that is holding me back is I want to test Cubase 9 (if it comes out in the next week or so) - Cubase is missing things like Clip FX with automation that Sonar has. They suit my workflow. I have been incredibly impressed with Sonar so far but I just may not be able to go the extra dollar for Platinum. Hence exploring options. Price wise I save almost 3 rolling update subs, which is a lot of updating if I miss a year between subscriptions. Or maybe I pretend I can afford Platinum just long enough to buy it :)

Lifetime updates are only for Platinum.

... hence the OP's question... What is the alternative to Lifetime Updates? To which I offered the above. If what I thought I read is correct there is no alternative.

Anderton As for the alternative to lifetime updates, for me I guess it will be dying.
Just wondering if leaving Plat for life to my heirs in my last will and testament is a violation of the Cakewalk license???
DAW: CbB; Sonar Platinum, and others ...

Just assume Sonar belongs to 'A n Z Music Co.' Does Cakewalk ever knows whether a serial no. is used by a company or an individual.

I imagine museums of the future with cases holding " a copy of the email containing the earliest known example of a serial number for Cakewalk Sonar Platinum" or "the serial number of the oldest example of Sonar Platinum in continuous use "

I was going off the OP and didn't see Gregh's post. Didn't realize the OP was 3 months old either. I need to stop responding to old threads.
