What is the best way to remove and clean audio files for projects?
Reason: I want to load projects on the laptop for live play and will be using a thumbdrive (fast tfr speeds) to load them from. Many of my projects have either several versions of the same song as well as the current version, and on top of which there tracks now no longer used with the latest version of the song. What is the best (or indeed IS there a tool) way to clear up these audio folders and reduce the size and content to ONLY the most recent version? Thanks

There is a provision called clean audio folder under the utilities tab....each time I run it it stalls and then crashes!!! I have been waiting for a fix for this bug for over 2 years. If any of you have had success with the utility... i.e. use without a crash and/or "program not responding" message please share.

I just ran the "clean audio folder" routine, and it worked as expected for me. It took a few minutes to scan all my projects, but it came up with a few files no longer used in my project that were available to delete. I don't use this utility because I have tons of disk space, and haven't really needed to use it. If you're having troubles with it, there may be something going on with your disk drive ? I don't see your system specs, so can comment further. BTW . . . Scott nailed it as far as cleaning audio folders, Save as . . .

I also run "clean audio folder". We have thousends of projects and it works fine. After "cleaning" the projects we move it to a backup.

I would be intereted to know why I can't run it. I also have a large hard disk. I am experiencing frequent dropouts with heavy projects...can't seem to pinpoint why. I tried running anti virus, played with the buffer sizes of both my motu 16a interface as well as my sonar he transfer buffers, tried 256 all the way up to 4096 and still experience poor performance, clicks, glitches drops etc...i am disheartened by this and hope to find a solution soon.

If you are having dropouts with a large audio buffer, try eliminating or freezing any plugins that may be causing your dropouts. There is a lot you can do to manage a project's load on your system. On the other hand, if you are getting dropouts with 10 tracks (or less), and no plugins active, there is some problem with your system. In this case, run LatencyMon and see if there are any indications there. Regards, Dan
