What is the difference between Melodyne 2 essential and Melodyne 4

Hey there

I have Melodyne 2 Essential in my CC and user accounts, and I installed it. But few years ago I was invited by Celemony to update to Melodyne 4 and I have it on my computer. I don't remember details. Did anybody remember updating and what is the difference, and how to install? Thank you.

Just installed that update (after my computer gave me BSOD). It says- it was update for Melodyne 4 version 2 to version 4.

Melodyne 2 Essential was bundled with SONAR X3 Studio/Producer and older version of SONAR Professional/Platinum.

Melodyne 4 Essential is the version bundled with new purchases of SONAR Professional/Platinum.

The upgrade to Melodyne 4 Essential is free to all Melodyne users. It only makes sense for Melodyne Essential users though because the upgrade requires surrendering your old license.

I found that, running within Sonar Platinum, Melodyne 2 Editor was buggy. I downgraded to Melodyne 4 Essentials and it works fine in Sonar, but I have of course lost features from Editor. I seem to remember Celemony saying I can't have both. I think Celemony's licensing and options are not not as clear as they could be.

In order to upgrade to 4, the old license must be surrendered. The only free upgrade is Melodyne 4 Essential. All other Melodyne 4 upgrades have a fee.

Actually I have Melodyne 2 in my Command center for Platinum, so no, it does not offer 4 with Platinum.

Also their upgrade prices are ridiculous. Way overpriced. I was wondering, if I upgrade, would it still work in Sonar as regional effect? Thank you.

Would you please share with us the advantages of Editor and is worth in your opinion to pay what they ask for upgrade?

The version of Melodyne in your account and Command Center is the one that was available at the time of purchase. Upgrades and updates are provided through your Celemony account. All users of Melodyne 2 Essentials are able to upgrade to Meldoyne 4 Essentials for free.

WRT pricing, Celemony is no different than many companies their retail prices are high. When Cakewalk first bundled Melodyne, Celemony offered a 30 day window to upgrade at a substantial discount. When 4 was released there were several threads on this forum about the attractive discounts Celemony was offering for upgrades. Their products, including upgrades, go on sale once or so every year.

All version of Melodyne 4 work as a Region FX.

I, too, upgraded my initial v2 Essential to Editor. When v4 came out, the upgrade to v4 Editor was free, with one heck of a discount for v4 Studio. With the v2 Essential to Editor discount and the v2 Editor to v4 Studio discount, I've paid well less than 50% of v4 Studio's current list price.

When 4 was released, the upgrade from Melodyne 2 Editor to Melodyne 4 editor was $99. The upgrade from Melodyne 2 Editor to Melodyne 4 Studio was $149. The upgrades were slightly less at resellers.

And for me, it was so worth it!  The ability to display and edit multiple clips together in one window alone is great and makes alignment and pitch tweaking between tracks a breeze.  Not to mention all of the new features in v4.

    Good day,

I dont believe you can do polyphonic recognition with just Essential version (as included with Sonar).

    Cheers
