What is the favourite sequencer in the world right now?
I've been through a fair few sequencers. Of course Sonar is the greatest sequencer in the world . Now I've got that out the way  I've noticed recently how much I really like geist, I think this is my favourite sequencer right now. Before I was using Maschine, and believe me, Maschine sucks, I've read all the manuals and the main problem is patterns always loop in scenes come what may. Also it's a nightmare importing/exporting to Sonar. So I had to dump it until NI do a better job, it's really sad because it has so much potential.. Of course if you loopy loop all day you will probably never notice.. What are others real opinions? What is your fav sequencer? Cheers..

Geist is definitely my favorite sequencer if you're talking about sampler/drum machine sequencers. Although I have a couple of niggles with it (hopefully to be addressed in the upcoming Geist 2), I'm constantly amazed at how well designed and user friendly it is. It's almost become like a second DAW inside of my Sonar projects. I make a real pig of myself with it, sometimes having 3 instances of it each with all 8 engines full.

This is like those surveys every year to see which is the best DAW software. It all depends on who shows up to vote, not necessarily which is really the best in terms of functions. They all seem pretty much the same to me but maybe I'm missing something. I like the way Sonar Platinum works for me.

There really is no one best sequencer or DAW. It depends on how you use it.

I use FL Studio and Geist within Sonar.
I don't do much sequencing or midi stuff in Sonar, just does not work well with me so I Rewire or use a plugin within Sonar. or import into Sonar from another DAW.
Reason, Maschine, FL Studio, Geist for the sequencing.

Since everything I do is all about MIDI, the sequencing capability of a DAW is of primary importance to me. I left SONAR for Cubase because of the somewhat better MIDI and tempo facilities in the latter. I do keep close tabs on DAW releases and read the reviews with great interest to see if there are any other DAWs I should be looking at. Most DAWs have something they do better than just about any other brand. At the moment, Steinberg seems to have the upper hand when it comes to MIDI management.

Maschine Studio + Maschine software integration is still unbeatable when it comes to drums prog .
Stuff like Geist , Motu BPM , Tremor ect ...are great when i'm on the go without a crazy controler , so the intreface alone is suffcient to go deep

Well I read all the Maschine manuals from start to finish and same with Geist. It became apparent that Geist is far more flexible for sequencing and Maschine has too many limitations. Maschine is a great standalone controller, the software is good for a live instrument, and integration is good standalone. But the major problem with it is... a) Bugs (not that many, but they are whoppers). b) Pain in the ass when you are swapping sounds around as a VST plugin. c) Performance as a VST plugin (esp when you have other VST plugins plugged into this VST plugin  ). Of course a lot of that can't be helped but people have noticed big performance problems in later versions of Maschine. d) Stupidly the patterns always must loop if they are shorter than scenes. There is no way around this. Rumours are it will be fixed... one day.. e) Sonar now crashes with Maschine as a VST, been like this for ages now. f) Major PC only bugs, such as it will become unusable if you use more than one MIDI out... which has been around for years. They only really care about Apple it seems. g) The colours of the UI are terrible for me (bad visibility on a black background). It's about time they introduced a way of customizing them. So off to Geist I went. One prays NI will fix these issues one day. So NI didn't fully deliver for me sadly, they are too tied up in their own marketing to offer good support, and rarely if ever communicate in user forums... It's sad really because a lot of the problems they have wouldn't take many resources to fix. /rant over

I'm looking forward to Geist 2. The pics of the interface they've shared don't look too hot, I hope this is just a prototype without any bells or whistles because right now it looks like something hastily bodged together by a research scientist:  They've said it will be skinnable, but still, I have my hopes up that they're going to make it look a lot cooler than it looks now. The current Geist looks great but it's non-scalable and too small, at least this one is 100% resizeable. And just look at all them pads!

you guys are all into sequencing, loop based arranging and electronic music? My favorite audio recording system is still Pro Tools HDX, stable, fast and reliable. And when it comes to editing I love the speed you can work within PT. But I must say that this is our studio setup, at home I work more with Sonar right now. Loop and Matrix based Song creation is something I never needed.

I have zero issues with it .. i have a methodologie that preserves me from what you call issues ....zero crashes under sonar .... and performance wise, since they introduces kits that have more and more a lot of fx and vst like massive ext ..i tend to reqet pads that are not used andni usually have lile 5kits loaded easy ...

Battery would be great if it had a sequencer built in. I mean it's already great, but would be awesome if you could rustle up some patterns in there without having to wade into the piano roll.

I like and have battery but as said earlier no sequencer built in, it's just a trigger sampler and slicer. You could get Geist to trigger it, but then you realise Geist already already offers battery functionality and a sequencer, so there is not much point.

They both have their pros and cons. Battery is great if you need tons of pads, the effects are great and the browser I think is better than Geist.

Yeah Geist browser not good, I use Windows Explorer and drag&drop for that.

Believe It or not Mixcraft Pro 7.5 takes some beating Very simple and effective to use. Other than that ZX Spectrum!!!---SAUSAGES!!!
