What may be causing this CPU reading
This is happening when, as far as I know, nothing is going on. I have no apps open and nothing shows to be going on in the Task Manager Processes window. It's not my DAW PC- it's the internet one. Any suggestions or ideas? And thanks for any help.

well, yes so couldn't be a heartbeat but it
sure beats me.
It sure is consistant and constant or at least I see
it everytime I look.

something's definitely pulsing at those intervals. that's why I first thought of a WIFI because a wifi radio could look like that if it's polling for a signal. and BTW - is it a Dell???

Well it went to blue.
I just got back from an Acronis backup.
I don't know about wifi radio Beag but
this is an old machine just for this so no biggy.
Since I think it's dying I was curious of the reason.
I'll see how long the recovery last's...
Is it a Dell? ...can't you hear the fan(s)? LOL

That used to happen to me in my old computer...In my new pc I only have music production programs and nothing else...something in your pc is working using big amount of cpu power...something you don't need. You need to find out what it is and get rid of it.

start/run/msconfig hide all microsoft and then make a list of what shows then google each one to see whats running in the background. Then disable the offending crap, it will be about half of what shows, like Canon picture share and stuff...You'll be amazed at what your computer is doing behind your back.
The task manager only show some stuff , not all. But wireless internet cards do poll but should not use that much up.

Thanks guys.
It's a PC just for the internet, not my DAW PC. Even so it's not right and
I want to get it right.
First chance I'm going to try and track the culprit down -thanks JohnnyV.
Couldn't agree more Gcruz.
At least I got it back with the backup, then shut it down. No time to mess with
it so I'll check it this eve to see if it's still doing it.

nothing shows to be going on in the Task Manager Processes window Something always shows to be going on in the processes window. Unfortunately a lot of the time it is hidden under the useless label "system idle process". If it is that regular, you have a good chance of catching it. Have you tried process monitor?

 Thank you David. I removed a virus protection program I purchased last May. PCtools and spiking gone. PC running as I'm use to. It sure kept "process monitor" busy. A virus protection program that acts like a virus...just great.

Ya that's a good site. I found another one like it once. If you google the process name like CLPhelper, you will find out what it is and some of the sites will explain that it's needed or optional or garbageware.
