What movie(s) would you like to see remade?
With all the remakes being done, are there any movies you'd like to see redone? Although I'm still thinking about it, I can't come up with any...

None. I could probably think of a few that I'd like to be unmade though.

Which hasn't or isn't in the making? :s Seems every time I watch an old movie and look up for info on the internet, I also read that a remake is in the making or that an agreement for one has been reached. Latest one - Gremlins. There's an entire generation of movie makers out there who mistake special effects and CGI for scenario ideas.

Mostly, I'd rather not see too many remakes. However, one that might make sense would be Fantastic Voyage. The special effects were pretty good in their day(1966), but I think today's technology would make it much more believable--especially with the right director, writer and a good cast.

For me, the problem with remakes of a good or classic movie is that the newer actors/actresses are all just plain meh and are lackluster. They're actually not even in the same league as the original actors etc....just the graphics/special fx carry the weight in newer movies.

Original or remake, it's just an exercise in greed if they use all the budget on CGI and stars but don't have a good script.

What do you mean? They showed BOTH the Americans AND the Germans. Sheesh! (I know, I know... You have a soft spot for those Canadians. It's ok, but they were on another beach: Gold, Juno or Sword - just like any other nationalities that participated. )

Movies that were already good shouldn't be remade. So for me that pretty much leaves good ideas/books/plays/etc. (and maybe - though not necessarily - reworked foreign films) that were pretty much butchered the first time round. Trying to think of one...

I just thought of a remake that didn't stink - The Producers. I dig that one. Incidentally - Nathan Lane also plays in a US remake of the Birdcage, which is one of the very rare tolerable remakes of foreign movies, as far as I'm concerned. 99,99% of the time, it's a disaster. Diner of Shmucks, man... I feel for people who can't see that movie in its original version - what they've been provided as an adaptation sucks big time. It's SO completely not it.

The later Batman movies, Dark Knight, Dark Knight Rises; Exceptional, can't wait to see the next one. Makes all those older orig' movies seem so quirky and lame. Total Recall; Cool, like the fact that it showed a more down-to-earth plot along with great action/acting. Would have been cool if they continued on with this, perhaps a trilogy. Star Wars; Later three, of those the first one with binks I think needs re-making. The Champions; Would like this old series made into a movie trilogy or ongoing movies and/or series. The Time Tunnel; Would like this old series made into a movie trilogy or ongoing movies and/or series. Land of the Giants; Would like this old series made into a movie trilogy or ongoing movies and/or series.

They're one of the few exceptions - though I'm a big fan of the 60s series and movie and also enjoyed the Tim Burton revamp quite a bit. The Chris Nolan ones are just darn too good. Actually, I think Tim Burton created a monster when he revised Batman and made him wear that all black armour-type of costume. Ever since, it seems that 99% of the superhero movies are all about refreshing the superhero's suit. I get that lycra wasn't the most badass material for a superhero costume, but kevlar alone doesn't make a movie. Nor does CGI. But Hollywood studio have all gone Gong Ho on superhero movies. I just don't see the point in re-doing Superman and Batman again. Nor did it make much sense to re-reboot Spiderman a couple of years after Raimi's trilogy.

Someone in the industry told me once that when you see a remake you can bet it's done by a famous /rich /etc. person's Nephew, Niece, or other relative getting ahead of the line cuz it's so much easier to do a remake than an original project. It's more like follow directions, come close to the original and you can't go wrong. He said the same was true of most of the actors he's worked with. Well I Am so glad that doesn't go on in the music industry!

* To an extent, it most certainly does occur, there's probably millions of examples in regards to original re-works / releases not only by the original artist's themselves but by other talented artists. Just one example, Across the Universe; Scorpions covered it (nailed it) beautifully Here (Y/Tube) and many others; Fiona Apple and David Bowie. Rain They're one of the few exceptions - though I'm a big fan of the 60s series and movie and also enjoyed the Tim Burton revamp quite a bit. The Chris Nolan ones are just darn too good. LOL, aww no, the Lycra, comedian's had a field day with that. But who knows, it might be the hottest fashion by 2020, much more daring I suppose....(from what I've seen recently; sorry can't elaborate anymore than that due to the COC, whoa... that didn't sound right, TOS sounds much better. Agree, the later Batman movies are the exception; proves that it can be done, done exceptionally well. I got to also give credit to the villains; The Joker raised manic-psychopath to a whole new level, and that other villain, Bane in The Dark Knight Rises literally knock's several momentous scenes right out the ballpark. The last movie ended in such a way I think Catwoman (turned Batgirl) and soon to be Robin should be in the next release, but who will be the next villain(s) and how the heck are they going to top the last two is anyone's guess. Other movies I'd like to see a remake of are; The Fifth Element, Doom, Dune and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Me too - plus there's a LOT of additional material there (even in the first book) that wasn't even hinted at in the current movie. Can't believe I forgot about Hitchhiker's! I've got both the original BBC series and the latest attempt. Neither really does the whole set of books justice.

Mostly, great science fiction novels that were butchered by Hollywood. Two in particular come to mind, wherein some hack decided he was qualified to rewrite a masterpiece: Ender's Game and I, Robot. They shouldn't have been allowed to use those books' titles.

James old friend, If you are trying to convince us that American's didn't do all the great things we've been led to believe we did, you are way too late. We already know we've been spoon fed crap from Hollywood for decades. I'm reminded of a story I read once about a conversation between John Wayne and Kirk Douglas. Wayne was going on about how he would go about leading a battle against an enemy. Douglas listened for a while and finally said "You know you're just an actor, right? Randy Randy

They should re-do Plan 9 from Outer Space or Glen or Glenda if only to prove to themselves that CGI and better special effects alone don't make a movie.
