What one piece of gear or software do you have that you KNOW you should sell?

In support of my fallow GAS(ers?) - we all jump on new shiny toys and sales, but we also all have some bit of equipment we don't use and know we should roll over for more gear funds but never take the time to post on KVR or ebay.

so what's that one piece of gear you are really not using and should get rid of? I'll start - for me it's my mid-80s Roland Jazz Chorus. It's a great amp in fantastic condition, it just never gets played with the other amps I have close at hand. But Craig's list gives me the willies...

IK Multimedia T Racks and CSR Reverb, reasonably priced at the time but still more expensive than the worthless I equate it with.

SpectraSonics Trilogy... it seemed expensive for what it is and after I got to know it I figured out I'd never use it. I doubt it's worth the CD it's on.

Life goes on. I feel lucky that I learned a long, long time ago how to save up and pay no strings attached cash for stuff that I would grow in to and so I have long and friendly relationship with almost all of my gear and software. :-)

I have a mint condition Mesa Boogie Blue Angel Combo (1x12) that hasn't been used in years. I don't have the time nor the need to play/record live......been doing all my playing/recording on my DAW and do want to sell this vintage gear. I'm with you about Craigslist giving the willies.......I'd rather keep this until I find a safe/trustworthy buyer.

Reverbs. I've never actually wanted to sell stuff as I do a lot of research but for some reason I overstocked on reverbs a year or two ago. I'm not sure why I really wanted them.? Why do I want to sound like I'm in a cathedral or a cave or a long tunnel and why do I have a number of plug-ins all doing exactly the same thing. Unfortunatley, they are NFR. Even the tightest among us get it wrong occasionally. Great products - it's not like they are rubbish - but a bit surplus.

If I was advising someone now I'd say just buy one Reverb plug-in as you tend to get lots more included in other plug-ins and DAWs.

I have a TC Helicon Voiceworks.  It is a rackmount jobber, and I played around with it maybe4 times, never in a song.
I guess I could use it as a preamp, or as a reverb unit....

Digitech Vocalist VL3D - It's a nice unit but I find Antares and Flux better for my needs in the harmony generation arena.

The ones I don't need/use are ones I got for free, or so ridicilously cheap that selling is no option. There's nothing I've bought that doesn't get used.
I've never had the cash for commercial GAS.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

I have a bunch of rack-mount gear from the 90s that I cannot even give away.  Back when I bought them, these units cost $750 to $1400 (plus one had to spend extra for PC editors and maybe for expansion sound cards).

I've looked around trying to find some educational institution that could make good use of the gear but nobody seems interested.  I had to put it all out on the curb for electronic recycling, but may end up doing just that.

Anyone have a Yamaha FB-01 that I can have (I'll pay shipping)? I have some old songs that I only have the MIDI for and I'd like to digitize the sounds (for posterity).

I'm in the same boat... but what do you have?  Maybe a solution is for me to acquire more...or what's your address so I can be standing by the curb?

I find some units still are good at what they do...digital delays for chorus and I like some of my older reverb units.  I have a couple of Alesis wedges that sound great to me... just as good as these "popular" Strymon Big Sky units going for $500.  If you need a minute decay time, they've got 'em....not to mention great verbs for monitoring and let the artist tweak away...

Just about everything I've ever had that wasn't being used has been given away. I reckon if you give it as a gift they can't bring it back.

I gave away a pair of Klipsch La Scalas... to a guy who didn't really want them.

I still miss them but I was clever... the guy I gave them too doesn't have a big enough vehicle to dump them back on my "curb". :-)

should sell?
hmmmm Akai MPK 88 controller.  thought I needed 88 for Kontakt keyswitching but I don't even use the pads, dials or sliders.  $500+ for a controller was overkill.  Now I'm using Motif 6 as controller.  more fun too.

I got Heavyocity Damage and Evolve, and NI Funk Guitarist then bought Komplete Ultimate 9 that had all three in it, got duplicate licenses.  too much effort and time to figure out how to sell um.

I've been hardware synth hunting lately but shops around town don't have much and I keep getting out bid on deals on ebay.com.

Everything Waves except they're now out of WUP and you can't sell them if there out of WUP and then there is the xfer fees and then there is the constant sales for less than I payed for them so, I guess this does not apply to the OP because I know I can't sell them...

Purrrfect Audio DAW here.  Wow!...

One piece??
There is a pile of stuff stored in the roof space, A Korg Poly 800, Roland TR505, Yamaha TQ5, Alesis Midiverb, Alesis HR16 drum machine, Fostex spring reverb, and a broken Yamaha DX100 (think it just need the little lithum battery replacing, that a soldering iron job though).

I keep thinking I will get them down and sample it into some Kontakt instruments one day. In reality I should see if they still work and if they do see if some one wants to buy them but it all seems too much effort as I doubt they will raise much.

All my old Waves stuff, but again like rTucker55 mine's out of WUP so it will just not get passed on I suppose. It seems that most people have old outboard hardware they don't use anymore - I've been buying a bit lately or exhumed my old stuff, so I'm going the opposite way!
Best one I've started to reuse and even managed to get some old floppy disks for is my very old Ensoniq Mirage - I'd forgotten how much I love that old 8bit sound!!!! Just started to incorporate it in some of the new tracks we're putting together - hope it works out as well as I think(!) it will.

Re: What one piece of gear or software do you have that you KNOW you should sell? 2014/01/14 06:10:33 (permalink)
I actually just got rid of the gear I wasn't using about two months ago, a 15-watt Crate practice amp and an ancient Yamaha consumer-level keyboard. And I used the money (although the small sum I got needed a bit of help) to buy an Ibanez Mikro bass. And next time I get some cash, I'll have to replace the bridge if I can find one. The intonation is off by ~4 cents on two of the strings and it bugs me. Not that I can hear it, I just know it's there.

The next thing I need is a pair of near-field monitors, but I suppose that's more appropriately discussed in another thread.

MachineClaw - Just fill in the form on the NI website and de- register them. They will remove them from your account and you're free to sell. You've got a few hundred dollars there. Don't miss out on that. It's easy and painless but can be a week a two depending on NIs speed. It'll help pay for your Ultimate.

I have a Rocktron Intelliflex in my Guitar rig, along with an Oberheim GM1000 and a TC Electronic Fireworx. I've never tried the Rockman, actually I've never even seen one!
Sounds like they may be worth investigating, especially in my quest to reuse old hardware instead of software all the time.
