I like your idea of sending it to the author who wrote the book. No telling where that might lead. If nothing else, you might get a nice letter acknowledging your work. ...
I don't. But then I have done this to many of the literatii that were (and some are) around my dad and his work, and for the most part, you are compared to the kitchen sink, the cockroaches, or the rats a lot more than you are for what you said and did or wrote, or sang!
Luciana -- (on my screenplay) -- "why don't you use more universal symbols instead of personal symbols?"
Joaquim -- (on my book of poems - 75 of them) -- " " (you get the idea, right? He never bothered to read them. Will tell me after he dies that he didn't have the time!)
Isabel -- (older sister and sometimes emotional idiot representing the family!) "I'm so mad, I could not borrow the book, to photocopy the pages I needed"/So? Bring in a scanner and then scan it!/"I'm not scanning anything! I need to photocopy a couple of pages!"
Brown University Moron -- "Very nice work! You might think about publishing it!"
UCSB JackAss and Jerk -- "We can't set a bad precedent by allowing you a stipend to spend your time writing!" (Look at my record now!) Oh, btw, this same thief used up several million of a donation from the Gulbenkien Foundation on people picked off the street in Dakar and Sweden and Argentina, to study Portuguese 101 and 102! That ought to further the study of Portuguese arts and literature that bring the students in!
Nice guy Jesuit and sometimes tennis partner before he passed on -- "Sometimes we just have to give up and go somewhere else." "Yeah, but you're talking destroying the spirit of your own children." "Yeah, I can relate. Sometimes I feel the very church I'm a part of is in it to destroy our spirits so we all believe a fantasy!"
CHouse#1 -- "Just unplug this and plug this here and it should work". Done that. Nothing!
CHouse#2 -- "You need to use this other program to make that program work!". Still not working!
CHouse#3 -- FRED!
CHouse#4 -- Too busy with Photoshop to make $100 bux!
Famous singer that has gotten 4 of my poems -- "These are really neat and I'm hoping to find some way to sing these, specially the one about vision/poem"// It has been 18 years, and one dinner, and two letters! Either him or I will be dead before I hear from him!
But there are 3 people that have helped a lot and they are, in my life, the greatest inspirations for anything I do. They are:
Kevin Ayers - Gave permission to use his music on my film
Anthony Phillips - Allowed me to use his music for the Ygdrasil Journal of Poetic Arts issue of live readings. I read a poem over his music.
Gilly Smith - Shakti Yoni, is one of my secret dream folks with one of the nicest spirits of anyone I have ever met. Also a part of the Poetic Issue for Ygdrasil.
Favorite line EVAH from a musician .... Mike Howlett on his warmup and testing in Eugene, OR ... "is it too bassy?"
