Ummm?  I have no idea what you're asking.  But if it's any consolation, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!

That's why i'm so confused, because the only thing said to me is this:
Him/Her: "Are you proficient with Protools with Vegas?"
Me: "I know protools, but i am more adept using Sonar"
Him/Her: "So do you know Sonar with Vegas?"

I was like wtf? I couldn't find a plausible answer to reply because it was for a part time job and if i say that "what's vegas?", i might get "okay, next!"ed.

It couldn't be Sony Vegas, because that wouldn't be related to audio recording anymore.

So he/she just said "I'll contact my manager for your application, i'll contact you in the future. Thank you"

So i looked at youtube, the i searched "Vegas Protools", then a video entitled "Vegas Mode" came up and i watched it. I didn't understand what it was.

I can only guess and mine would be, Sony Vegas.
    Excellent video editing/creating software.
Originally started as an audio editor and still does so quite well.

Sony Vegas Pro + DVD and Sonar is a very good combination.

Or is it Sony Vegas? What could be the audio-related use for Sony Vegas? And if so, what instance would make you want prefer it over ProTools in some point of time?

But it still quite doesn't make sense. What would you need Sony Vegas for if you applied for a "Secondary Recording Engineer/Assistant"?

Oh, so it's for audio editing. Meaning if they require knowledge on that, does that mean Vegas works better as an audio editing software than protools?

In my opinion they wanted to know how many ways you can "skin a cat".

The "need" isn't as in what the programs are needed for...or preference.
The "need" is as in needing somebody proficient with multiple applications. Well that's the way I take it.

Vegas is very good for editing audio or video.

Debating which software is better....waste of time. It comes down to what one prefers and the abilities one has with one or many.

Oh, yeah. I think you are right. But it's the first time i knew that Vegas could be used for audio. Anyway thanks Spacey! It looks like i'll be off learning Vegas immediately LOL.

Vegas is a great audio-only editing program.  It is set up like a tape deck w/ an electronic razor.  And it works pretty much the same way for video, so you don't need to learn 2 ways to do the same editing techniques.

The "Studio" (cheaper) version is really nice.  Doesn't have all the audio tracks, but for video it is mostly missing all the video effects.

Whoo Hoo! Vegas! I'll be rolling the dice,,,,, the chips are down!

Seriously, I got the Movie Platinum Pro pack because it's absolutely fantastic value and since I plan on using it for basic video editing/production  (music videos) it has enough features I need to get the job done.  But for more tracks (audio and video) and more features I strongly suggest the Vegas Pro Edition, but she ain't cheap!!

My brothers (inlaw) has used Vegas Pro for their band recordings,  they say it's a very solid program and could not be happier with the results.

Vegas Pro is audio/video only, it does not do midi, but I've always use SONAR as my primary DAW.  SONAR + Vegas = 'Oh Yeah baby' :-)

you can also set up Vegas so it appears as an audio editor in Sonar; that way no need to close down one to use the other...quite what Vegas can do that Sonar can't I'm not sure though, especially since Sonar got a proper scrubbing tool...

Can you teach me how to set up Sonar to do so?

Their interest in your knowledge of Vegas may be far simpler.

They may want to know if you will be comfortable working with soundtracks.

Lots of music producers are missing some key concepts regarding digital video and they have trouble importing and opening video in DAW because of very simple issues.

Lots of folks can appear to operate the software really well... and yet become helpless when there is a need to understand concepts like codecs, proxy files, frame rate etc.

If I were you I'd emphasize your good attitude and willingness to learn.

    best regards,
    mike
