...and does this cloud based company now start demanding we work on the cloud and we are going to ONLY be able to pay the cursed annual fee? Neither of those suits me...

Where did you get that from? NO, Meng (Bandlab) has stated and it's posted and stickied...Sonar (with new name) will be a desktop App. relax Also, did you search for demo mode issues? Many threads about it

Fire up CCC then log out, log in again and fire up Sonar from within the CCC.
That should cure things Jerry

AH. Yep...thanks. I am always worried that doing anything through CCC will suddenly result in some 300MB+ download that I can't afford, on a limited data budget, without careful planning.

CCC won't download anything automatically. You have to ask it to do so.

If you have never deleted the files in your Command Center download folder then all will be cool. The only reason it would download is if something is out of date- You will see an orange or red light beside that item. Nothing has been updated since November and nothing ever will be updated ever again as far as Cakewalk Sonar goes. They will be offering us a free purchase of the Shiny New DAW when it is available. You can choose to download and use it or not, your choice.. The Shiny New DAW will not be using CCC but CCC will remain there for as long as Bandlab is running the show so you can always re install your old Sonar products.

I don't recall reading that. And I *believe* I've read it all. Link please.

So they rename it to xCC. Where 'x' equals the first letter of the renamed SONAR. Simples. Still asking, link please?

From what my latest email has told me, the debacle is not under my control, but bandlab's. Just want to make music, not to keep being faithful to a music software that starts as almost-shareware, becomes bigger and bigger, sells out to another company that then _dumps_ it and now to some almost-messianic mob who seem to be offering "too good to be true" versions.

Nick, you should take the time to do some reading here, at least the stickies where all this is explained clearly. And there are many threads where everybody is chiming in including Noel and Meng to clear up all the speculations that are just that. First- You are not being forced to have anything to do with Bandlab or upgrade to the Cakewalk by Bandlab version. For now and hopefully a long time to come the Servers that authorize CCC and Splat will be keep alive. Carry on as always. You just won't get any updates or bug fixes but you can use Splat forever until it no long has an OS that it will run on. Second- If you do some reading here you will quickly see that most of us long time users are happily using CbB without issue and are pretty darn stoked about how this has turned out. There's only a very few sort of paranoid types still being negative and un trusting of the new companies intent. Third- CbB is far from shareware, it is Splat with the 3rd party paid for plugs removed. Just because something is free doesn't make it crapp. Obviously they know what they are doing with this and it's all to us long time Cake fans benifit.
