What was your favorite new feature in 2016

Just curious.  I think mine may have been the Lenses.

Probably the Tungsten theme. it really felt like it changed the whole mood. Allowing me to work longer hours without being eye fatigued as I did when using Mercury.  However I cant remember if drum replacer and Vocal synch were released earlier last year. those are 2 tools that have really made life a lot easier.

Windows 8.1 X64 Sonar Platinum x64
Custom built: Asrock z97 1150 - Intel I7 4790k - 16GB corsair DDR3 1600 - PNY SSD 220GB

Were LP EQ and Multiband in 2016?

StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen.
I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

Bug fixes.
Especially finally being able to Ctrl+stretch an audio clip without snap offset changing in the background.

It's a toss up between Synth recording (internal) and Aux tracks. I find both very helpful.

I only upgraded to Platinum in August, so I'm not sure when the different features were first introduced. My vote goes to Aux tracks, assuming that they belong to 2016.

SonarPlatinum(22.11.0.111)|Mixbus32C(4.3.19)|DigitalPerformer(9.5.1)|Reaper(5.77)
FractalDesign:DefineR5|i7-6850k@4.1GHz|16GB@2666MHz-DDR4|MSI:GamingProCarbonX99a|Matrox:M9148(x2)|UAD2solo(6.5.2)|W7Ult-x64-SP1
Audient:iD22+ASP800|KRK:VXT6|+various-outboard-gear|+guitars&basses, etc.

Mine would also be aux tracks and patch points, but they were 10/2015.

And it would be load balancing, but for the only project where I had problems with high CPU load in one thread, it didn't help. It looks better balanced, but the drop outs persist. (Changing power management helped.)

So, it's smart swipe. Really nice to show/hide lots of tracks in PRV at once.

Here's my list of major changes for 2016:
2016.11: Lenses, WASAPI drivers, Matrix View Enhancements, Browser (Notes Tab, Synth Rack)
2016.10: Softube’s Console 1 support
2016.09: Plug-In Load Balancing
2016.08: Plug-in Browser Enhancements, Take Management & Comping Enhancements
2016.07: SONAR Theme Editor
2016.06: Smart Swipe Track Controls
2016.05: GUI Theme Selection, Tungsten Theme
2016.04: LP EQ and MB, TH3 Cakewalk Edition
2016.03: Melodyne Tempo Detection, Help Module, Ultra Analog Session 2
2016.02: Add Track Menu, LANDR
2016.01: Melodyne 4 Essential

Oh without a doubt, the best feature since the pc could record and playback multitrack audio, was tempo extraction from free form audio. - Thank you. This is liberating for me.

Themes are cool too.
Oh and Fx Load balancing.

None, I thought the main purpose was to help beginners. For Midi I still prefer insert soft synth as simple instrument track. Seems quicker

Tungsten theme.

+1

The only reason I bought it. Well ok, it was lifetime updates that sealed the deal, but the dark theme is the only current feature that actually made me want to have it.

Load balancing, without a doubt. Many physical modeling plug-in presets from companies such as Arturia and AAS, which previously stuttered badly on my not so top-notch computer, are suddenly possible to use.

How 'bout my most unfavorite features?
Like Control Surface add Marker no longer working.
Wonky "Delete" key when I put the Synth Rack in the Browser where I'M USED TO IT!
Sorry to shout, but that's just bull shirt.
Everything else; pretty cool. Lovin' my SONAR Platinum.
Why don't we "fix" the Synth Rack, put it "back" in the browser; if you want to "dock" it be my guest!
Oh, but please do leave "Project Info" in the Browser (some of you might think that's "notes"); I got used to that real fast.
Oh and by the way, FYI, rolling back to 2016.9 resolves the Marker and Delete issues.
Just sayin'...

When did Lenses come on board?
If they don't work in "9" no big deal, I never "found" them anyway.
Are they anything like the Screensets I don't use?

Hey,
I am happy! I said "lovin' SONAR!"
And I truly do.
Rolling back to "9" was simple.
That's a feature I LOVE, not "new" but still.
Things will get sorted, I'm confident of that!

Re: What was your favorite new feature in 2016 2017/01/08 20:31:06 (permalink)
#1 - Splat for life!!! - lifetime updates

Then in chronological order:

SONAR 2016.04
Cakewalk LP EQ and MB
Overloud TH3 Cakewalk Edition

SONAR 2016.05
Tungsten Theme (I loaded X3 today, first time in a long time, and I thought ... "Wow, what a dated look", LOL!)

Cakewalk 2016.10
CA-2A Leveling Amplifier Is Currently Free

SONAR 2016.11
Synth Handling Improvements (Synth Rack)
Lenses
Matrix View Enhancements
Improved Built-in Audio Support (WASAPI)

Overall, many various fixes!!!

Since I only jumped on Platinum in the middle of 2016, I have found that a lot of the Platinum improvements since X3 from 2015 were awesome as well!  Still catching up on all the new features

So for honorable mention, I have to give a big shout out for Synth Recording!!! Since I mostly work in MIDI and soft synths, this is huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge!!!

Same for Aux Tracks and Patch Points!!! Huge as well!!!  Excellent!!!

It just keeps getting better

And as a bonus comment, I must add that I was watching a YouTube review for Cubase 9. and the reviewers were falling all over themselves about this amazing interface change in Cubase 9, they referred to as *the Lower Zone.  ROTFL!!!  How long has Sonar had a Mutlidock???

*Lower Zone
The lower zone of the Project window allows you to display specific windows and editors
in an integrated and fixed zone of the Project window.  Like the Mix Console view, the Piano Roll, etc ... plus they added a Media Bay in the "Right Zone" of the Project Window.  They should have named the interface "Skylight", as well, ha!

DAW: CbB; Sonar Platinum, and others ...
