What's the point in

Britain's Favourite ?????? Song Series on TV. They have don Bond themes, Queen, Abba etc. You never get to hear more than a few seconds of any song. Just an excuse for talking heads to spout BS.

Is Stuart Maconie on it? He seems to be on every one of those 'list' shows.

I think so, its got every man and his dog, presumably to leave less time for music. I wonder if you play less than so many seconds of a song you don't need to pay royalties?

Except they are not that good ... or that much fun!

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

Thinking about it, there are a lot of these types of 'list' shows around, mainly the 'Best Ever'/'100 Greatest'/Most Loved' type thing, usually on Channel 5.

Without doubt, the better ones are when they only use one presenter, as opposed to extracting a series of scripted soundbites from a host of so-called "celebrities" and "experts". I've only managed to sit through a couple, most notably 100 Greatest Toys presented by Jonathan Ross, which certainly brought back a few fond memories.

The point you make is valid for most of these shows though Glyn, a few seconds of actual footage of the item padded out with many minutes of pointless drivel. It's probably why the shows (on C5 particularly) go on for around three hours or so. With just an informative voice-over commentary, and with more clips of the subject, these list shows would be a lot more entertaining and much shorter.

Hi,

I'm not a great fan of these shows, as they are nothing but a commercial to convince you that those pieces of music are the best and they aren't. They merely might have sold a bit more ... but then, even Virgin Records started out by creating its own Top Ten, and all of a sudden they were selling millions and the guy with the blue balls started ripping off many artists!

I just get tired of it! The same song! The same beat! The same drum track! The same .... bullpucky!

Steve ... I just do not feel the need to be out there whoring and begging for attention, got it?

If you appreciate it, I say thank you ... and I will always return the favor (and have many times), but some of these things are literally just commercials to prove to you that they are good and you are not. I appreciate a lot more of the work that is shown this Coffee House, than some of that crap! So sorry if you can't see that!

That's about the size of it. I forget the various play times that trigger various levels of royalties but if you've ever wondered why e.g. Radio 4 only plays snippets of songs in the news or drama productions that's why.

Sonar Platinum 64bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, I7 3770K Ivybridge, 16GB Ram, Gigabyte Z77-D3H m/board,
