What's with the fake settings on kitchen appliances
My toaster has settings for Bagel, Defrost and Reheat. As far as I can tell, they do absolutely nothing. Toaster goes on, all elements heat up to full capacity for the duration of the timer. Pressing any of those buttons changes nothing. They might as well not be there. Similarly, my blender has settings for Smoothie, Shake and Puree. Again, switching between the three does absolutely nothing. The same blades spin at the same speed in the same direction. Do they think we're stupid?

It's all marketing - in these cases what I call "Failed Marketing Attempts" The number of gigabytes of samples included with VIs is another one that makes suspicious

Yeah I figured it would be marketing, what amazes me is that they're essentially treating grown adults as children by putting make-believe features on our stuff. It's like having a toy spacecraft with switches and lights in the cockpit that do nothing.

Sharke we have way too much time on our hands....lets imagine a tune. That's it. Now where's the daw? There it is. Can I translate whats up there to down yonder? Maybe two noggins together can do it. You and I. Forget the bleeping toaster man. If that bothers you what's going to happen when it rains fire?

sharke Do they think we're stupid?
Yes, they do. And in many cases they are correct.

I was going to make a joke about how the new butt I had installed has the same problem but then I realized the punchline was perhaps a bit too "potty" humorific for the CoC. So I'll just let you all use your imaginations.

When I replaced my refrigerator a few years ago, the Temp control of the old one fell off while I was moving it out. I went to put it back on and discovered it was connected to nothing; just a dial stuck on a plastic cover plate.
